A bit of a longer post but what an ending.....

This past Memorial Day weekend Cathy and I traveled to Long Island, N.Y. to visit our best friends. We have ridden there in the past (5 hours away) but Saturday morning when we left it was 33 degrees. So trailer...again.

To the story. On Sunday the 4 of us (Cathy and I 2-up on the K bike, Fred and Cathy on his Vulcan) had a great morning ride along the north shore back roads on Long Island. Right around noon we ended up at the shore in Port Jefferson. Found the town municipal parking lot which was full of cars but it had a motorcycle parking area. Great- lots of parking. We parked the 2 bikes and went across the street for a very good seafood lunch.

We come back to the bikes after lunch and I notice that my K bike is on its sidestand when I always park it on its centerstand. Then I see that the left pannier is slightly open at the front.

Then I see a few other things are not right and someone notices a note in the clear top part of the tankbag. This idiot had pushed my bike off its centerstand onto its left side

Apparently the dipchit was backing his 900# H-D boat in to park next to my K bike and he fell backwards, knocking my bike over. That was a big drop- think about getting it off the centerstand to the left.

This blew the left bag apart at both hinges, bent the left mirror mount and ripped out one of the 3 mount points, bent the clutch lever and gouged the surface of the valve cover and PIAA light.

Parts are ordered to fix it because I have an IronButt in 2 weeks.

MAYBE people shouldn't be riding POC bikes that weigh nearly 1/2 a ton.

Well, the HD guy came through.

On Tuesday, 2 days after the K bike disaster, I texted him what the parts would cost. He should be happy that I am not a "take it to the dealer" kind of guy.

Yesterday I received a check from him.

Some parts are back ordered from Max but should be here by Tuesday.

BUT, with my first official Iron Butt next weekend (I have done some undocumented IB before) the bike is ready to go with reconditioned parts before the Max parts get here.

BTW, NOBODY should be riding a 900+# bike with 2 artificial hips and a replacement knee. Idiot........

Well, at least not if it hasn't been triked or has training wheels.

Lots and lots of trikes at Rolling Thunder this year - and I did see a HD with training wheels - a very scary looking affair...

Hey the OFFICIAL IronButt went well.

It included a bunch of 2 lane roads through small towns including one that closed my route to have a parade! Slowed my progress down a bit

Just over 19 hours for 1069 miles.

The reconstructed K100RS ran flawlessly and the electronic CC was invaluable. Comfy and without drama. Krauts knew what they were building Laughing

Thanks for asking. Might do a double in September.

John - as long as I don't have anything to do with putting it together, planning it, or fronting the money for it...

That said, I don't think I've been on the bike for almost a year...
