Hey guys, I have a PR3 on the front in size 110/80/18 and a PR4 on the rear size 150/70/17. There are awesome tires. I had swapped out PR2's front and rear.
With the PR2, I got 11,000 miles both front and rear. I probably would have gotten more if I had run a higher tire pressure. I now run 38 front and 42 rear. Along with the Hyperpro springs up front and the Ohlins unit in the rear, my 1996 K1100 LT SE handles great (for a touring bike). The tires also look good on the bike. As far as speedometer error goes, that is way down on my list of concerns. _________________ 1996 K1100 LT SE, Aspen Silver 148,xxx mi. |

They picked up on any grooves, depressions aor other deficiencies in the tarmac road. They made the back end wriggle about like a snake having an epileptic attack!
I replaced them fairly quickly with Michellin Pilot Active's back and front. They were from the other end of the spectrum as far as handling was concerned. Wet or dry, smooth or uneven, they were never found wanting nor did they give any hint of instability.
So for they have done over 7000 miles with at least 2.5mm of tread on the back and 1mm on the front. I ran them with 2.3 bar in the front and 2.5 in the rear as per the Mitchellin website. They were actually cheaper than a pair of Continentals for my K75s.
But I am sure they will have increased in price since the last time. |
I have just changed both tyres with another set of Pilot Actives. The front was almost down to the wear indicator in the central groove, whilst the rear still had 2.5mm of usable tread remaining. I have never had this happen before, it is usual that the front will last 2 rear.
The total milage for the tyres was 8900 miles. I have kept the still good rear cover as a spare.
The price of the pair has shot up since the last pair were fitted in January 2015 by no less than 20%. It was from the same dealer I used last time and have used for many years. He even showed me comparison bills from the supplier to show he was not ripping me off. _________________ 1997 K1100LT
