It appears there's a stuck piston in the ABS modulator. Anyone here heard of someone who fixes these things? Other than the stealer?
I think Ernie had one apart, and got it back together, but it didn't last. _________________ Jim

Nuts Jim, I remember someone, somewhere had a step by step guide on how to rehab an ABSII unit.
Now if I could just remember where.......... _________________ John & Cathy

I'm not sure that even a stealer would "repair" one. From a liability standpoint they would more than likely only offer a new replacement.
Anyway, Jim check here:
https://modulemaster.com/rebuilds/shop/brakes/abs-modules/abs-fte-abs2/
I read some posts from MOA that did say he does do mechanical rehab of the pump assy, as well as electronic repair of the controller if needed.(that was 5 yrs ago)
Its at least worth a phone call. _________________ Ride safe.

Thanks, Scott!
I knew about ModuleMaster, but didn't realize they might also work on the modulator/pump.
Certainly worth a try... _________________ Jim

Hi Guys....
"YES'... Jim is correct. I did get into the "plunger side" of the ABS-II with some guidance form Inge. In my case : I first removed the heavy unit from the bike...( major PIA ).... and then went into the top end the way the Report on IBMWR explained and pictured. That end is little more than the top end of the plungers that actually apply/release braking pressure in accordance I assume from mechanical or electrical sensing within the "brain".... There is a ball, a small spring, a rubber cup and a very small hole in the side-wall perhaps no greater than 0.010 to 0.015 in diameter which allows the fluid above the rubber cup to be either "forced out" by normal braking pressure, or released slightly to relieve braking pressure when signaled by the "brain" to do so. The force driving these plungers "upward" is enourmous and comes from the wicked huge springs beneath them. NO WAY would I attempt to dismantle the lower unit... my problem was blockage of that small control orifice from degraded rubber particles. So I took a piece of pipe, fit a football airfill-needle to the hole in the end, then ground off the end of the needle to concentrate and direct the high pressure air. On the opposite end I put a compressed air fitting. I attached this to my shop compressor line at 120 psi... and blew out through the tiny holes as best I could. I put it all back together and "It worked" all season of 2015. After the winter rest of 2015/2016 it was back to the 'non functional" once again and I have not played with it again. The little rubber cup-seals are there to prevent the brake fluid from entering the lower portion where the heavy springs and the torque motor are located. I obviously cant say this for sure, but I believe the majority of ABS-II problems have to do with the degradation these little rubber-cups. IF I knew where to get some I would, and you would all get a lifetime supply...
So thats been my one and only experience in dealing with ABS-II
