|
|
I bought a Wunderlich cruise control for my K11, but I can't figure out how to remove the handlebar counterweights to which the end plugs screw into. Also, there is a wire for the heating of the handgrip that I am afraid will break if I don't remove the counterweight correctly. The maintenance manual's depiction of the counterweight doesn't even look like the one on the bike, and it says to just "pull it out". Mine won't budge! Now what?
This is what I bought: https://www.wunderlich.de/shop/en/wunderlich-cruise-control-26160-102-1.html _________________ To err once is human. To do so repeatedly is incompetence.

I know there are different ways of mounting the bar end weights. What has worked for me is to loosen the center screw partly and lightly tap the end of the screw with a rubber hammer. This usually will loosen the weight where it will just pull out. _________________ 2004 R1150RT 186,800 miles

But this doesn't make sense to me. The cruise control comes with two large countersunk screws for each end of the handlebar. If the counterweight just pulls out, that means there are no threads inside? _________________ To err once is human. To do so repeatedly is incompetence.

On my 91 K100LT I believe that the screw in the end of the bar pulls a wedge toward the outside that spreads and clamps the bar end. By loosening the bolt and then tapping the screw it will calapse the wedge and allow you to remove the bar end. Try it. It won't hurt to try. _________________ 2004 R1150RT 186,800 miles

The K1100LT factory bar ends have plastic caps on them. Twist them clockwise and pull to get them off. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Ok, I will try that, but that still doesn't answer my question about an inside thread. Also, what about the heater wire? Is it OK to pull them out that way when they have the heater? _________________ To err once is human. To do so repeatedly is incompetence.

I had had the caps off already. The problem wasn't that. Wunderlich sent me the wrong parts, for a different bike. Some sort of clusterf**k on their e-commerce site. <sigh> _________________ To err once is human. To do so repeatedly is incompetence.

Got the correct parts from Wunderlich today and they fit just fine. Tomorrow I will try them on the way to work. _________________ To err once is human. To do so repeatedly is incompetence.

Oh, this system works very well indeed. I can set it for light friction in the city so i can easily accelerate/decelerate and just cruise if I want to, or more friction if I am on the autobahn doing the Luke Skywalker thing. _________________ To err once is human.
