|
|
Hi,
My K75 is fitted with a K1100 front-end. I found out that a small brake fluid leak in my K1100 front master cylinder had caused the brake switch to melt and fail. I searched for an OEM replacement but the Ebay offerings were very pricey. The K1100 front brake switch is a readily available microswitch, able to be sourced at many online electronics parts supplier, and costs just a couple dollars.
A compatible replacement is an Omron Electronics SS-5GL13 (Datasheet).
It has the exact same dimensions and mounting hole placement, making it a drop-in replacement. It will be necessary to clip the lead from the old switch and solder it onto the new one. The Green/Black wire goes to Common terminal and the Grey/Blue wire goes to NC terminal.
Equivalent Switches
There are a number of different manufacturers that have similar microswitches and you'll have to search the datasheets to make sure the dimensions are the same. Critical dimensions are package dimensions (19.8mm x 10.2mm x 6.4mm) and hole spacing (9.5mm) and hole diameter (2.3mm). You may have to bend the lever a bit to get it to work reliably; I had to.

Panasonic ABS1412509 (Datasheet)
Honeywell ZM50E10E01 (Datasheet)

This is an interesting new source for alternative spares which I will add to my list.
One other is the fuel pump fitted to the K1100 and later K75 bikes. It is a pump from a 1990 Volkswagen car. Same part number and fitted straight into my K75 which already had been modified to fit the later pump.
The cost of the new pump is about 1/3rd less than the one for BMW bikes. This pump may also be used on BMW cars it may be worth checking makers part numbers _________________ 1997 K1100LT

This is what I apparently need. Do you know the model of VW car, I am assuming gas and not diesel, or are they all the same? _________________ 1997 K1100LT

Euromotoelectrics has reasonably priced pumps for K bikes - in the $100 range instead of the $400+ BMW wants.

I disagree. Breaks are for rational people. |

I can get a VW fuel on Rock Auto for less than $40. Just need to know which model. _________________ 1997 K1100LT

Volkeswagen Golf petrol engine. I also believe the same pump with slightly different part number is fitted to the smaller Audi cars too. _________________ 1997 K1100LT
