After seeing these with JO riding behind me I just had to get a pair eventually.
I went riding today and I know it's a dangerous way to think but I KNOW I was that much more visible to brain dead car drivers. I'm really a fan of these and glad I bought them.
My WallyMart fog lights only cost $15.99 a pair and another $8 on eBay to upgrade them to Xenon and they worked pretty well but it really was worth changing over to these. And the fork mounting was incredibly easy. Even OTG could do it.
The bum in front of Safeway who wanted to talk bikes with me was also quite impressed.
And they're not DOT approved so it makes me feel like a rugged outlaw biker guy. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Ok, I was OTL, comin back & had the classic SUV from the right pull out in front of ya thing AGAIN!!!
I saw it coming, the truck first in line scooted, this second one looked RIGHT AT ME !!!!
Brakes well covered, I flew right at him, stopped 6' short, full horns on.
He kinda keeps going & thows his hands up half heartedly. Like sorry imadumbass.
I thumb the heat seeker, decide against it, too fricken close & I'll have skull chips imbedded in my jacket. Flip off the safety on the mini-gun, chit! Never installed that on the bike yet neither, dream over. Get back safe & alive again.
Go to Ebay, ordered the amber 70W CATZ from Jonny Catz or some dude like that. Will install these using Drakes tips.
That don't work I'm going to harrass GE Medical near by here for a mini Yag laser, boot it up to serious retna severing level and aim high.
Like we say in WI, uck em Bucky! _________________ 1993 K1100RS that I'd rather be riding FAST!

OMFG!!!
Sorry, I forgot.
OTL is my excuse to go riding, food consumption was not incorporated and the ride was the food for my soul/mind. The body will need to cope till dinner.

Went for a joy ride this afternoon and finally got a pic of the Johnny-Catz lights in action:

So Duck, how do these wire up?
I'm of the electrically challenged type and I HATE cutting into factory wiring, or running new lines, relays, etc...
Is there an easy, damage free way the wire these up? I do well with piggybacks!
Would the switch these come with be suitable in the one "dummy" switch I have left on my RS? (I believe it was for heated grips if so equiped.)
I'm interested in getting these, but don't want to muck up my stock wiring, reccomendations appreciated. _________________ Steve

The Japenese in these instructions made it perfectly clear, thanks JO!

What is a posilock? Is that those snap on connecters that splice into an existing line? _________________ Steve

That's what I've been wondering about, it like there supposed to fit on some sort of bracket, but what? Why doesn't it come with them? How would you mount those on a car without a specific mounting plate???? _________________ Steve

They come with a mount suitable for cars, not our K1100's.
Drake came up with an easy way to mount them.
If you don't want to order the stuff from Mc Masters? You can probably get the stuff form a GOOD hardware store. Not Home Depot ect.
I got 7/16" Stainless tubing .030" wall, 1 foot for $5.95. Then all stainless steel bolts & washers, and jam nuts. I think they were 3 1/5" cap bolts. A hex head bolt makes better sense, but the store did not have them.
Support bike safely, pull off brakes calipers & wheel.
I removed the stock front side fender bolt. Put 3 1/2" through with internal star washer. Then add solid washer against fork leg reflector. I then could guage pretty close on how long to cut a piece of tubing. Cut tubing, file off burrs. Slide over bolt, add internal star washer, the CATZ light with mount down. DON'T FORGET TO FLIP THE BULB & HOLDER OVER 180 SO THE DRAIN HOLE IS DOWN. Cut little piece of tubing to go between the light mount ears, file burrs off. Slide light & tube over bolt. Add internal star washer, heavy washer, then another ISW, and final jam nut. Use allen wrench to hold bolt & tighten up. GOOD AND SNUG. Now try and adjust light, eyeball it level with the ground. Give it a another turn. Needs to be tight, but if I hold the lights, when they are off & cool, I CAN adjust them minutely, maybe 15 degrees up or down. They have stayed tight for about 500 miles now. The cap bold head clears the tire easy. I made the tube just long enough to only have about 1/8" of bolt thread left over once the light & all the washers are in place AND tightened down.
Repeat for th eother light.
I mounted the lights on a Friday evening, couple hours, I was not in a hurry and it was cool here in WI yet. Did the wiring on Saturday and again, not counting running to the store, changed the oil at the same time and spent about 4 hours getting it all like I wanted. I also shrink wrapped any exposed wires, then ran that spiral wire protector around anything that would rub or move by the steering head.
I used my blank switch spot, cut out a rectangle in the middle with a dremmel and a thin abrasive disk. File edges smooth, cut the whole smalled than the switch and file till switch fits tightly. There is an exposed resister on the back of the swith and it does NOT look H2O proof. So, I fed the wires though the blank, then used black silicone to H2O proof the switch and the exposed wire connectors. and it snapped in clean and pretty. So far, all so good.
Switch picture, it's on the left & lights up green when on.
Lights from top, note wires are covered with heat shrink tubing, but they could be wrapped.
Got the mount idea from Drake though, and it works slick. _________________ 1993 K1100RS that I'd rather be riding FAST!

Nice write up JP, thanks. I've read the other threads on these and understand the mounting to the forks. I was thinking about mounting these under the nose cowl, that's why I was curious about other brackets.
Back to the wiring, running a power wire directly to the battery seems a bit crude, isn't there somewhere in the "black box" of wires that you could tap into? A fuse or something?
I'd imagine you could ground to that master ground under the tank(?).
Any other wiring tips? _________________ Steve
