Just identify the area, remove the pad, expose the foam, using a burr, carefully remove small layers at a time. Reassemble and go for a ride.
Repete as needed until you acheive a comfortable fit.
I had to do that on my Arai in the area in front of my ears and directly over the chhek bones. |
Good advice Gwen...going to do this with the wifes helmet....it hurts her right on the temple. _________________ Bane of your existence since July 2006

Year round:
Scorpion EXO-700 Helmet
Daytona Spirit XCR Boots
5.11 Tactical ATAC Shield Boots
Warm Weather
First Gear Mesh 2.0 Jacket
First Gear Mesh 2.0 Pants
Coretech DX Gloves
Held Steve Gloves
Cold Weather
First Gear Teton Jacket
First Gear Escape Pants
For really cold weather:
Tourmaster Synergy Jacket
Tourmaster Synergy Gloves
Comments on the gear:
I hate the Scorpion EXO-700. I get sunburn or windburn on my forehead with it. Only takes 3 hours or so on the road to get a big red mark on my head. I bought it cuz it was cheap and Shoeis no longer fit me since they changed their shape with the RF-1000. Prior to that I wore Shoeis for over 20 years.
I love the Daytonas. Some of the best fitting boots I've ever had. Also by far the most expensive.
The 5.11 Tactical ATAC Shield boots are awesome. They're essentially SWAT boots, not motorcycle boots per se. But they saved my toes in a low speed dump on the Harley recently. At $150, they're much cheaper than the Daytonas. I wear these to work and the Daytonas on longer rides.
I like the First Gear Mesh stuff, although I wish the pants had better pockets. It really breathes, but the mesh is small enough to protect well. It's armored and works REALLY well with my evaporative vest.
The First Gear Teton/Escape combo has better armor, but I'm less fond of it. The jacket needs better venting and the pants have the knee armor positioned WAY too low.
The Synergy heated gear works fairly well, especially the jacket. The gloves don't get very hot, but they keep your fingers from freezing.
The Coretech gloves are great in hot weather. In anything else I wear the Held Steves, which are the best fitting gloves made by man. I've heard their stitching quality has gone done recently, so when these die, I'll probably go down to Helimot and pick up one of his designs. It's where I buy my Daytonas and he's widely known for his custom leather racing suits as well as his gloves. _________________ M N B

I'll pipe in on mesh gear:
I think Fieldsheer makes some great suff. I have a mesh jacket that has leather where needed with dual layer CE armor and a decent back pad. I actually feel pretty safe in it.
IMO a tight fit makes the most sense as that way the armor stays where it should be in a getoff. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

It's PERFECT now. |

I generally buy stuff that has a lot of utility, is somewhat cheap, and most importantly fits.

It will also reduce the chance of abrasion injury. Loose clothes have room to move around, thus causing abrasion. _________________ M N B

The Nolan helmet fits me with no tight spots- wear it for hours with no problem- the FIRST helmet I have ever owned that doesn't hurt after an hour or so. This happened by accident- Cathy wanted a flip up chinbar helmet to make it easier to get her glasses on and I wanted to match so we could use the N-Com intercom. So we took a chance and ordered two- have been happy so far.
The jacket was the only one I found that would accomodate my wingspan- my arms are LONG. I am 6'2" tall but I am 6'8" fingertip to fingertip.
The Bohn gear? It actually works as advertised (but it is NOT as cool as they say during hot weather).
