When I was having all the problems with my forks (the infamous stripped drain plug bolt), I ended up having to remove the fork tube from the top and taking the whole kit and kaboodle to the machine shop. Prior to removing the tube from the triple tree I marked the tube with a Sharpee. Of course that promptly rubbed off... Embarassed

But before removing I measured the distance between the black cap at the top of the tube down to the triple tree. There was approximately 1/8" difference between the right and the left sides. When I reassembled the bike after the repair, I put the tube at the same height as before. All seems to be well.

Question: Should there be any difference between the two sides? Is that ok?

The following weekend I stopped by Morton's where I ended up talking with a rider who was 81 years old Shocked

, He said he has owned 11 of these K1100LTs. He was surprised that there was any tube showing at all. He said that normally they are almost flush with the triple tree.

Ok, anyone want to offer any advise? Should I adjust both to the same height?

I have had 3 K bikes and all had their fork tubes even with the top of the triple clamp.

I would think that the right and left should be even. Never seen anything else in the manual.

I think I will go ahead and make the adjustment. I need to cut off the allen wrench so I have some working room inside the fairing area. That is very tight. But other than that it should be pretty painless.

Flush on both sides.

You can do them without cutting up Allen wrenches. Turn the handlebars.

All done. Looks much better. By the way, I was fully versed in turning the handlebars. That wasn't the issue. No matter which way you turn them the working space was very tight.

But, I am all done. the tubes are aligned, new seals and gaiters. If I could only get some sunshine and a daytime temp in the high 50s.
