I placed this here in Tech as that's where it began for me.
Needed to change the oil. Scored 5qt just of 15-50 Mobil 1 from WW.
I try and NOT do a strip it & whip it oil change. I take the drain time to inspect, then clean and lube things.
As of late my stock exhaust has seemed rather un K like. I could hear the bike exhaust louder than normal. Then, just this year, I started feeling vibration never felt before and more of it. Never a positive thing.
So when I tap the exhaust can I hear a metallic loose metal kind of sound. I think maybe it's from inside there? But upon further inspection that's not so.
I find this busted. The whole freakin flange is busted. I always keep the header bolts tight and everything is lined up. No loose bolts anywhere.
So, luckily for me, while reading about all the other K1100 exhaust cracks & problems I picked up a used Remus!
Problem solved for now.
Please excuse poor cell phone pics, the digital camera migrated back to my teacher / wifes classroom. I'll be looking for a travel camera to take pictures and can post more when I have that.
So, now my exhaust is lighter, brighter, but now even LOT louder. This system weighs 15.3 pounds on our mail scale at work. I did not weigh the stocker yet, but will after I get it welded. Or brazed, I cannot decide.
This must be the sport canister on the Remus. It's not as obnoxious as many of the road racer wanna be's, definately not near many of the HD's around, but louder than I am used to. I'll need to try it a while. The sound seems to resonate more than the stocker. Ear plugs on trips for certain. I get them free at work so no problem there.
The power seems about the same. Feels a bit like I lost a little torque down low, not much, just seat of the pants. Bike is again silky smooth, that extra vibration is all gone now. Revs really free, no back pressure but no popping or back firing on hard down shifts either. I had to see if it would do that and it did not.
Bike is running like a dream again. _________________ 1993 K1100RS that I'd rather be riding FAST!

If you make it to HMIV we can compare it to mine. I got the sport version for my LT that I'll be taking out again this year. _________________ Ride safe.

You guys are killin' me. Just put a Two Brothers exhaust on Jen's ZX. That sounds SO great. (you will hear it at HM)
Now I want to hear my brick. Wish there were more choices than Remus, but what can I expect from a 19 Y.O. bike. _________________ John & Cathy

There is Staintune as well as remus, plus Beechcomber and his Realm team are working on that one set up also.
Time may be on your side, yes it may.
See you in May. _________________ 1993 K1100RS that I'd rather be riding FAST!

Ok, used the # totrack it doen.
Pass, looks pretty beat up, not a solid description of street or track.
Mine looks like the canister, like polished aluminum, just better shape.
I'm going to give it some time.
The sound is kind of messing with my head making me think I am going faster than I am. Is that why some types like those loud pipes?
At speed, highway & above, it's not that horrible.
We had some high winds kick up late today in SE WI. Running into a good breeze I hardly hear it at all.
What is very odd for me is the COMPLETE loss of engine braking! The gears mesh, the tranny whines, but I get NO decleration.
If this thing was straight through it would be a lot louder so I figure I should get some engine braking but it is so dramtically less than stock.
Bike runs AOK too. _________________ 1993 K1100RS that I'd rather be riding FAST!
