|
|
After hearing god-awful noises, and (luckily) limping the 4 miles to home- I pulled my final-drive to find about a teaspoon of shapnal in the swing arm. I pulled out the drive shaft to find only half the universal joint. The parts -(drive shaft, right swing-arm pivot pin, cir-clips) are $750 new. So- I'm looking for advice on used drive shaft...
Thanks _________________ 96 k1100rs |

Just be glad it you caught it b4 is caused more damage.
My u-joint failed @ 80 mph...I had no clue till the tach needle swept to redline.
I had to replace transmission when the case split. (found used trans + DS for very resonable.) (Duck has a nice inventory.)
Good Luck... TMC
BTW..make sure it is "In phase" for install. When you have it all lubed with the Honda Moly 60 or Paul's "Special Wurth blend recicpe".. you are good for a while. _________________ Tom Connolly

Old part number, new part number? A technical bulletin from BMW? Anything? _________________ 93 LT (x2)

I'll take pictures and post them.
Basically the K1, K100RS1 and first K11 had the previous driveshaft, late K11 had the new one, I don't know exactly when they changed it, the new reference is 26112325746. _________________ I am not a number, I am a free man.

This is kind of a strange one. From looking at the parts catalog it looks as though the early ones came as a front and a back piece while the later ones were(are) only sold as a unit. Since the early ones were sold as halves and the newer ones were sold as a whole it's not a direct supercession so I can't tell from the parts catalog when it happened. (I'm sure BMW knows though.) _________________ 93 LT (x2)

From the french K1 forum: http://www.bmwk1.net/viewtopic.php?t=1102
-Driveshaft broke et 80000 km, replaced by a part number 26111458480
-Broke again at 145000 km (+65000 km), replaced by a part number 26112325746
Still on the bike at 300000 km, which means the shaft has more than 150000 km, much more durable...
Here again, pictures of old and new shafts: http://www.bmwk1.net/viewtopic.php?p=7016&highlight=#7016
