My K11LT has a 17" rear wheel. Could I install a 18" rear wheel, from the K11RS (I think) would it be too wide for the 140 tire? Is there an advanage to having a smaller wheel on the rear. How would it handle with both front and rear being 18". Just pondering, what do ya'all think??? _________________ Lifes too short to ride an ugly Motorcycle |

others will be along to say that it's a-ok to do that as many have.
this year I went with a wider/shorter tire in the 17" size so I could have matched branded tires. so far so good.
rides well, and no measurable difference in the mpg department.
You may want to consider a wider tire for the wider rim, just for the ease in mounting. _________________ Ride safe.

RedBrickRider,
The "stock" size that we use on the K-RS is a 160/60-18, as you may already know.
Several LT owners here have gone to the RS rear wheel so that they can use a Michelin Pilot Road 2 (the PR3 is now available as well). Many of the RS owners here really like the Michelins.
You shouldn't have any problems with the 18" wheel, but as Scott stated a 160 will be easier to mount. It would be your call as to whether the 140 handles OK- you might find that the sidewall may be exposed too much on the wider wheel.
Good luck

Just FYI...
The 160/60 18 is NOT available in the PR3 yet...
I've been searching for a couple of months, I am on several email notification lists, and I have contacted Michelin with no results.
The size is listed, but no one can get them.
Last week I gave up and ordered the PR2 rear to go with PR3 front.
So I am sure they will be available any day now... _________________ Bob T.

Sorry all... my computer has been down since last Saturday. I don't think I can put a wider tire on my RT. There isn't much room between the tire and the driveshaft. What I was wondering was would a 140 width tire work on the 18" RS wheel. The main thing I'm tring to find out is, would a 18" wheel front and back make the bike handle better. _________________ Lifes too short to ride an ugly Motorcycle |

The RS rear wheel and 160 tyre will fit onto the LT, although you'll need to remove the caliper and rear disk to make install/remove easy.
You really need to swap the front for the RS wheel as well for the full effect.
I'm running RS wheels on my K11LT and it's like having a new bike - rock solid at all speeds and no more white-lining.

Ok Guys...one of you PMed me to let me know that you had a 18" rear wheel that you wanted to part with. My computer crashed and I lost all the info. Please contact me again. Thanks Kenny... _________________ Lifes too short to ride an ugly Motorcycle |
