I have a 93 LT and the book says it has a 5.2 Gal. Gas tank. I was getting off the exit ramp last week and the motor died. The light had been on for about 20 miles. I swerved back and forth, and it fired back up. At the gas station I could only squeeze 4.3 Gal into the tank. And yes I had it on the center stand. So whats up????????????

Does the tank still have the "fill flapper" installed yet?
That will somewhat limit how much you can fill the tank, with out forcing it in.

The fuel level sender c/- of Clymer.
When the fuel level in the tank drops to 5 Litres (1.32 US gallons) the low fuel light comes on.
All tank level gauges do not read the same.

To answer this question run your tank low than drain all left fuel into a container. Measure out 5 litres (1.32 US gallons) taking note of where the empty neddle rests than where it is after the 5 litres (1.32 US gallons) mark is.

In Australia doing our big distances is staying on the bike (200k's plus)
& taking the tank as far as possible.
Example 310.4k's for 18.13 litres at a speed of 120-130. Broken Hill to Mildura. That time I could have taken it to 350.97k's There's .5 of a litre in the fuel injection lines.

Doing the above will give you more understanding of you bike in the furture.

I suggest this; fill (2) 2.5 gallons cans of fuel and stash them in the saddle bags.

1. Ride at highway speeds until the light come on; mark it.
Cont. riding until you run out.
Now you know how far you can go after the light comes on at a given speed.
See if you can get ALL 5 gallons in the tank.

2. Then if you want, do the same but not at highway speeds just to see how far you can go at slower speeds. (carry (1) 2.5 gallon can of fuel or less)

I don't pay any attention to the lights, just the miles since last fill and take into concideration how fast I'm going. Very Happy
