Good morning all...

Before you all pick up a tomato to throw... I KNOW we've already discussed this topic to the point of complete boredom, BUT, do any of you know of any newly developed resources that can/will do rebuild/repair of our ABS-II modules or even just the module 'brain' ???

Of course we can ride our bikes using conventional braking, but having the security of a functioning ABS has spoiled some of us. I'm getting ready to take off for HMSP-IV and just thought I'd risk your ire by asking again !!

Are you sure it is broken? It is not commun with ABS II.

Hi No.6...

Yes... I get the #7 error when testing, which indicates the module. I will try to bleed the module however before completely giving up. It had functioned fine until I had a battery failure, then replaced the battery with a high end Odessy PC 680 and still the failure mode. BMW dealer tested and proclaimed the module needed to be replaced ( $3000 USD )... ie: not an option ! Thought there might be some new Wizard out there repairing these things but I guess not. The fellow in Japan only does ABS-I. I may even opt to remove all of the ABS and just "hard pipe" the braking system...unless someone out there in the "K" world has another idea.

Ernie,
I seriously doubt that it is the ABS brain. If it was working fine and replacing the battery caused it to fail, I'd be highly suspicious of the electrical connections. Is it possible you missed a ground or possible a hot wire?
I missed a ground when I replaced my battery and chased my tail for a couple months (dang near caught it too!! )

If all else fails and you're still convinced it's the brain, I'd contact these folks:

They don't list BMW Motorcycle ABS, but they might know how to fix it.

Here is link to a company in Germany who repairs ABS 2 units: http://rhelectronics.de/
In the row of pictures to the right you find the ABS 2 unit almost in the bottom.
It`s not exactly cheap (I think they remanufacturing the complete unit), but you could always drop them a line about your
problem and try to get some advice.

And about your battery failure, on the page to a factory remanufacturing ECUs I did read that the most common reason
for a malfunction K75 ABS 1 ECU was a drained battery .......?????

Did you try to reset it? Sometime a simple reset does the job.
Otherwise consider a replacement with a used one, you can find used unit around $400 or even less. It is a bit painful to replace because of the brake line screws to the unit, but with good care you can do it youself.

Watch for a salvage unit on eBay....

I know it's risky...(how do you REALLY know it works), but it is worth a shot.
They usually go for $500-600, but I got lucky and won a replacement unit for $100, dropped it in and it worked....

Good luck. If you find a place be sure and post it up. I've got the bad unit still sitting in the garage.
Be nice to have a spare.

Ernie I agree that abs is an excellent safety asset that can save your bacon better n you can at times.

I also agree that it is rare for the brain to go out.

Plenty of folk think their abs brain is dead without really knowing what they are doing.

You are a smart fellow and I imagine you have used electronics cleaner spray on the pins and tested wirings reseviour and fuses and relays.

Have you tried the old remedy of a night in the freezer yet?

Forgotton where I heard that one but maybe worth a shot.

Otherwise the folks in Germany (I remember you speak German) would have to be a good shot too.

Please don't be self conscious about bringing up stuff coz sooner or later we are all going to have that or similar problems

I have to admit, I haven't tried the 'freezer' trick yet, in fact you are the first to tell me such was/is/might be possible. Do I get in the freezer or do I put the unit in the box ?? I know that I can always count of the folks in OZ and NZ to come up with cleverest ( ie: unorthodox ) solutions !! What is the theory ??

I agree here... I used the Link from Ilke to go thru their catalog and at 1/3 the cost ( 830 Euro ) of a new unit, they are a great option. I have also sent them an email asking for their opinion before I agree to a contract. Waiting for the response since this IS the weekend. ( Thanks Ilke )

Not sure of the theory on the freezer trick

I have also read that some abs 2 units would permanently switch off at 20K number of duty cycles, just a straight out blooper

For my buck, the ebay option would be the go.. guess you have tried the venerable Duck and he is out of abs2.
