I've got my money on Phil showing up on 2 wheels. He's tougher than all this crap he is fighting.

He'll be there, a leaner meaner K bike man.

C'mon PHIL!

Hey, just saw that Chip is signed up also. Excellent!

I don't know about the "ultimate" part - but we are already planning our trip - Jim, you might have heard this before - but the check is in the mail!

We are in the early planning stages for this trip - will we (as a group or individually) be riding to the Smoky National Park, and /or the Blue Ridge Parkway during the get together?

Thinking will we see one daughter in Parkersburg, WV. and my sister in Ashburn, VA. before we arrive, trying to fit in the above mentioned - so just wanting to know if there is an kind of schedule or agenda during the weekend.

Only 7 months to go..

Hi, Stephen,
In the past we have not ridden the BRP or the Smokies. We normally ride the local 2-lane roads which are GREAT to ride. Of course, if the group wants to ride the BRP, nothing is stopping them. And, of course, nothing is stopping you from riding the BRP or any other road before or after HM V.

Couldn't have said it better than Phil. The BRP and the Smokies are a good few hours away from HM, so it'd be a slog to get to them, ride them and get back.

Our agenda is usually, go get breakfast, go ride around in the surrounding mountains, stop for lunch somewhere, ride a bit more, come back and hang out in cabins and ask when dinner is going to be ready. Drink, Eat, Repeat.

However, if you can coming or going I do reccomend the BRP as a leisuley detour, the speed limit is 45 and fairly well enforced. But the views (on a clear day) are awesome and there are lots of pullouts to stop and enjoy the views. It looks like both of your other destinations are a good bit north of Hungry Mother. If you're stopping in WV first is looks like you'd come down 77 most of the way. Even though it's interstate, the WV highways sweep through some beautiful mountains and are usually 70 MPH.

I don't think WV has any part that is not a mountain...

On your way up to Ashford (DC?) you could detour onto the BRP for as short or as long as you want.

The Smokies are a good bit further south of HM and I was there on a family vacaton this summer. It was nice, but very touristy, and the traffic in/through town was crazy backed up. A bit overdone on the tourist part for my taste, but the scenery and waterfalls and rivers were awesome.

Anyway you go up there you'll have more mountains than you could possibly want.

Phil, Steve - thanks for the info, will plan accordingly. Donna & I want to ride through the Smokies - if we have the time, might be a while before we could get back there.

Steven and Donna,

My experience at HM III and IV-

Many arrive Thursday afternoon. The group then rides to town to a Mex restaurant.

On Friday most of us do a group ride for a couple hours, do lunch somewhere then more miles and return to the park.

Saturday seems to break down to 2 or more smaller group rides.

Sunday- everyone heads out for home or ?

We are lookin' forward to HM V

John

Steve & Donna...

I ride up from Atlanta, and take the parkway till sr16 to HMSP. It is a great road, if you travel it on the weekday there is very little traffic.

The roads to and from the parkway are some of the best secrets in motorcycling, and if you have time spending a few days in the area< you should!!

If you see yourself coming through my way, let me know. You have a place to lay over if so.

HMSP is low key...every year has been different, so Im looking forward to our FIFTH year!!! Looking forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones...

Breeze.....
