Hello, I've had my 93 k1100 lt for 7 years now. It has just over 72,000 miles. Rile riding at speed she just lost power and started to run rough. I did the usual workups bad fuel, bad fuel filter, injectors, spark, ect. To no avail. Finally I took it in and shelled out $180 to have the shop pressure check the cylinders. Four was pulling 20k instead of the the expected 60k.

Great at least I knew why my BMW was sounding like a Harley. it was only running on three.

Ok I've removed the cam chain and camshafts and now I'm down to the cylinder head high impact bolts.

Here's my questions:

The Clymer book says "to avoid losing or misplacing the valve lifters... remove them from the cylinder at this time. How's that done? The schematic on the valve assembly shows a keeper under the valve lifter. The valve lifter came out easily. The book refers me to the "BMW special tool #11 1 250". Is this the only way to remove the them?

Secondly is there a trick to the cylinder head bolts. I can turn them by had for just a nudge then they turn hard as stone. Are they just standard lefty lousy bolts?

At least I get to spend a lot of time around if not on my bike this year.

Happy riding and thanks for any and all suggestion.

This is a special plier for removing the valve stem seals.
With some care, a small slip joint plier can be used (grinded off on the outside of the jaws, if necesarry).
