| I've been an owner of a VStrom 650 for the past 6yrs. and just recently happened upon a 95' K1100LT, that I could'nt live without, so now V is gone and Brick is in garage. Currently weather is not too favorable in Tulsa area for riding anything without a/c. Will post some pics when time permits. Also how hot should coolant temp guage indicate when motoring along in 100F ambient temps. Mine was not in red zone but was'nt far from it. |

Hi Alan - welcome to K11OG!
I highly recommend installing a fan switch - that's the best solution for helping to control heat.
A lot of heat comes off these engines. Look or feel under the tank and make sure it's got insulation on the bottom. Also lift the tank and make sure all the heat screening is in place. Another thing you can do is add a Johnny blanket. _________________ Jim

Alan,
I have owned 3 different K-RS "bricks" and each one would operate at a different indicated temperature. My '93 would almost always show the temp needle straight up. My current '92 shows a bit over towards the red zone. (probably more due to gauge differences)
EXCEPT if I get into slow or stopped traffic (not much here in northern New Hampshire) then the gauge will go nearly into the red. Jim's suggestion about a manual fan switch is E-Z to do and makes a big difference- just flip it on before you start to get into slower traffic. The foil blanket is a great mod too.
