They can make keys and locks from VIN#, but you have to be sure your lock have never been changed for differents locks from factory otherwise you're stuck.

It might end up being slightly more complicated than giving them your VIN. When I got my K last year it came with a single worn key. Assuming I could get one made at any BMW dealership, I contacted the closest one to me in southern Illinois at the time. (Grassroots BMW)

Per an old email I just dug up, I was told that you had to have the "key code" not the VIN as there apparently is no key/VIN database for BMWNA. Their words: "Sorry to say, without the key code we cannot order a key from BMW. Your only other possibility is to see if the dealer who sold the bike new kept a record of it."

Luckily this particular dealership was extremely helpful and traced the origins of my bike. I then contacted the dealership where my K was originally sold and they gave me the key code.

Not really helpful in your case with no key to reference, but for others here is a useful website for checking to see if the code you get still matches your existing key:

http://www.stephenbottcher.net/BMW/keys.htm

Also, I was quoted the new key cut from code would be about $85. (Gateway BMW, St. Louis) So I have yet to resolve my issues despite having the code and several blanks.

I've had the key taken from my bike at the MOA rally in Bloomsburg and at this year's Falling Leaf rally. You'd think I would learn a lesson here sometime. At least they leave the bike.

Fortunately I always carry a spare and have always been able to get new ones cut at a locksmith shop, $3 a pop.
