Approximately 10,400 miles ago I had the 2:54 gear set
from a R1200CL installed in my K1100 housing. Work done by Anton
Largiader @ http://largiader.com/shop/. All seals and bearings except
the large crown bearing were replaced.
Not cheap to do - but not a job for the back yard mechanic either. Gear lash
and preload have to be set right the first time or you get to buy more
expensive BMW parts. Takes a little more clutch slip starting out - especially
two up - other wise the engine has plenty of torque for the new gears.
At 70 mph - 4000 rpm on tach - not sure how accurate speedo is. About
20-25 more miles on a tank of gas .??
Will include two good used final drive pivot bearings.
Also the rear wheel will now have 4 bolts (like the K1200RS/LT; Oilheads) instead of 5.
I'll send a pic if you want one - still looks the same as before.
$300.00 shipped to your door in USA only!
e-mail best
Fits K1, K100RS (1991-1992), K1100LT and K1100RS (1993 - on) Paralever rear suspension

I wish I had seen ths about 10K miles ago when I had to r&r the DS and transmission. I almost bought a Mustard yellow K1 FD. I have really just wanted an "overdrive" for this bike for the last 40K. It now has 105. ..and is not a garage queen..

Still have on shelf - with my only K bike now dragging around a sidecar I have no use for this tall gearing.

a bit more info on gearing;
the K1100RS had a 2:81 gear set
the K1100LT had a 2:75 gear set
the R1200CL had a 2:54 gear set (and is a homely looking m/c too!) _________________ Dave Norris KOG 248

Not true,
early K1100LT had 2.91
later K1100LT and all K1100RS and K100RS/1 had 2.81
K1 had 2.75
All those FD are compatible. _________________ I am not a number, I am a free man.

Right, it looks like US bikes didn't get the 2.81 but got the 2.75 instead, my statement only holds for european bikes.
I'll look more closely at what's on my bike. _________________ I am not a number, I am a free man.
