Hi from the newest old guy. I was going to ask where this unit is but before posting, I looked in the "Stickies" as I should-my question answered. I should find out why no brake light easily. Already found the answer to reset the ABS (it worked) Next thing is to find which brake caliper is sticking. On the center stand, it's so front heavy I can't raise the front tire off ground by jacking up bottom of engine. No sweat, I've got a hoist. Both side covers have their center post/clamp broken or missing. Any suggestions about that. More to follow after I start riding it.

Welcome to the club, lots of info here bout your k1100.

BMU-controls or 'senses' the rear turn/brake bulbs, not necessarily the front-although i can not confirm this...and probably the headlight?

Check brake light switches, they stick, and are tiny, plastic plungers prone to breakage.

I just use a floor jack to lift the front tire up to spin etc. with a thin board placed to cushion engine bottom...

Brake calipers stick, can be re-built with new gaskets or just cleaned up by piston removal/dissassembly...

good luck, looks like you've had other bikes to play with as well...

The BMU controls brake light bulb (and switches), and tail light bulb...nothing else.

That was a problem on the K100, the switches on the K11 is different, and much better.

On the K11's the problem can be more the opposite situation. The Master Cyl plungers can get dirty on the back side and not fully return, thus causing the brake light to stick on.

I'd check the bulb, possibly bad, or the wrong bulb. Check the inside of the socket for the number of contacts at the base(bottom).
Some aftermarket running light kits will replace the socket to allow use of a 1157 lamp.(dual element)
The stock lamp is only a single element.
