Trying to rebuild the front master cyl - have the kit and following Phil Marvin's (RIP) instructions to do it on the bike. Anyway, I removed the brake lever, the banjo fitting and the stop screw. But the darn piston won't come out of the master cylinder.

I can push it in fine, and rotate it with a rubber hose over a large allen wrench stuck in the end. But for the life of me I can't get it to come out under pressure from the spring. I got the stop screw out without any issue so I know that's not the problem. Any thoughts?

There was quite a bit of gunk around the outer seal so maybe the corrosion has built up a lip that is preventing it from popping out? I'll try spraying some brake cleaner in there but any other ideas are welcome too : )

Check out Pg #638 Clymer Manual. Remove the piston stop screw and the piston will slide right out. You can see this small screw from the left side of the bike as it is under the reservoir. The piston screw keeps the piston retained in the piston cylinder. How do I know? I tried to rebuild mine and the cylinder was pitted so badly, I had to get a new unit for $199.95 (Says slight paint damage but mine had only 1 small scratch) from

If you can repair yours, you'll have to use sealer on the stop screw as it goes into the cylinder. Good luck, De
