How hard is it to remove? Is there any issues with the radiators blocking?I have issues with the bike running hot even at 2 degrees Celcius. I plan on removing the one in my parts bike and swap it over, I have replaced thermostat, radiator cap and checked the pump, if this radiator replacement doesn't work, what do I do next?

Hello!
Is it hot because You can feel it or you see it on a gauge?
To remove the radiator side panels ave to be removed, front grill, and fan disconnected. Then all the hoses and one screw on the top of the radiator just in the middle and air intake too. The radiator can be tilted forward and lifted up and hooks on the back side should realise the frame.
Find, and download BMW Service manual for BMW K1100 RS/LT - is free and legal to download.

Hi guys,it may be a good idea to wash out/blow out the fins of the rad.also.
The way the air blows through it.It is,after all, very small so it don't take much to restrict the air flow so cooling is diminished.
I have done it to my 95 K LT when I first got it.now I need to do it again,it's been 5or 6 years ago.seems to heat up a bit more quickly these days. Keith. _________________ 1995 k1100lt daily ride(22953)when I got it

Hi Keith,
Have done that, amasing how many critters and crap you get out of there, I recommend everyone do it occasionally.
Cheers

are you saying hot because the fan is coming on or the needle is moving towards the red? Whens the last time you changed the coolant? Easy stuff first.!!!! _________________ slyderx

Easy stuff first.!!!! | I'm saying hot because even at 2 degree Celsius = 35.6 degree Fahrenheit the gauge is past half way, If I stop at traffic lights within seconds the gauge goes to red and the Thermo fan starts.
I replaced the coolant about a year ago. I will have the radiator out of the spare bike this weekend, then I need to remove the one from mine?
I'll let you know how I go?
Cheers

is it possible that you are low on coolant perhaps through a leak? _________________ slyderx

If it gets that hot that fast, sounds like little or no coolant is going through the radiator. Or coolant level is low. _________________ John & Cathy

Hi Lou...
While you are on that end of the bike, and have all the "stuff" removed, I would suggest you also check that the water pump seal AND the impeller are in order. Be sure also that the tiny "oil return" orifice is clear and in the correct position. Cleaning radiator from the back side and fresh coolant never hurts.
Good luck, and keep us informed !!.........// Ernie in NH _________________ AMA,, American Deaf Bikers
