|
|
Just brought my recently acquired ’94 K1100LT into an authorized BMW dealer for a service and they said I had two much handlebar play and should replace both rubber “hose” pieces which were worn. They also suggested I replace the two rubber“suspension” pieces. Sounded like a good idea at 55,000 miles.
So, I had them order the parts and do the work. The job was done and the service manager informed me that the handlebars were now nice and tight. So far so good.
Then, the mechanic took the bike for a test ride and brought it back missing one of the “hose” pieces which apparently fell off during the test ride! So, of course, things are now as loose (actually looser) than before. Not so good.
The service manager seemed a bit puzzled as he said everything was nice and tight before the ride. Should also mention that this was the first such job on an LT the dealer had performed, something maybe I should have asked before he did the job!
So now the dealer has ordered another hose piece and says they now want to glue it in this time.
Any thoughts on what might have gone wrong and if they should use glue this time? Thanks for any help.

I replaced all those bits last year when I had the steering head bearings replaced. Nothing has fallen off - yet. Everything seemed to fit well. I can't imagine what they did wrong... _________________ Jim

James,
First of all, WELCOME! Great bunch of folks here.
Many of us here on the OG forum do our own K bike work. Seems imposing at first but do some little things and go from there.
Have you visited other sections of this website?
Try this....http://k11og.org/tech/k11tech_rigidbars.shtml
Or find a better dealer or indy wrench.
Did I miss it or not. Where are you located? Fill out your signature when you get the chance.
Once again, welcome.
