Well, since the glass is already broke, grab yourself a prybar/screwdriver and pop it out of the housing.
On the back of the glass is a plastic mounting plate with a single "ball" mount at the middle.
Once you have the mounting plate out carefully peel the rest of the glass off of it, take it to the local glass shop and ask them to cut some mirror to fit.
The glass attaches to the mounting plate with just some double sided tape or some liquid adhesive. The glass shop may have something that would work too.
Then you can just "pop" it back into the housing when you are done. _________________ Ride safe.

The slamming down on a towel in the link above works. I've done it. _________________ 2004 R1150RT 186,800 miles

Yes, works every time once you get your head around the process. _________________ 1980 CB900FA

I recently replaced the mirror portion of my mirror after the bike was dropped The housing was fine, it was the glass that broke so I had a new mirror made at the local glass shop as suggested here. It works good except it vibrates much more than the original on the left, so it is difficult to make anything out in the mirror.
Any suggestions on how to possibly reduce the vibration in the mirror???
Thanks

Use a suction cup, the GoPro one is perfect , you can easily remove the mirror with no damage. _________________ I am not a number, I am a free man.

IIRC, there's some rubber (or similar) pads that sit behind the mirror to act as vibration dampers, but still allow the mirror to be adjusted. _________________ 1980 CB900FA

Mine on the '95 were worn to the point that the mirror wouldn't stay in any position except down.......
I "popped" out the mirrors and put a layer or 2 of 3M 33+(33mil) electrical tape on the ball and put them back in.
They stay put just fine now.
@Molerat, is it the glass that's vibrating, or is it the housing.
If the bike took a fall, hard enough to break the glass in the housing, it sounds like something else in the housing is still messed up. _________________ Ride safe.

I did as some suggested, the cheap and easy fix. I didn't even remove the mirror, just drew an out line of it, took that to the local glass place and he cut me one for $5 bucks, attached it to the cracked mirror with silicone. So far so good. One problem is the curve in the OEM mirror, put plenty is silicone to fill the void. Took it for a ride yesterday, didn't notice any vib's. I'm thinking that the extra weight my cause the mirror to not stay in place. If this don't work I can always do it the right way and remove it and get a new one through BMW. _________________ 1993 K-1100LT. 1986 K-75C . 1992 K75RT. 1976 Honda CB 750A |

Hey Scott thanks for the reply, I am pretty sure its the mirror cause when I touch it with a finger the vibration disappears. I thought the same thing cause when I put it back on I noticed a couple of the tangs were missing from the holes on the side that mount it.
I will try to remove it and use the electrical tape method.
Thanks

Good morning Marlin...
I think I mentioned to you here, that when I replaced my mirror ( cheap flat glass ), NOT to lubricate the ball or the socket.. What I did on my second try was to clean both using alcohol, and then dusted both with 'rosin powder' ( ie: from a bag used by ball players ) So far, I like the flat glass much better than the OEM curved glass, and the mirror stays put and no longer wobbles. My first try with a very light coat of moly made assembly easier BUT after a bit the mirror started to wobble ever so slightly.. Just wanted to share my experience in the same situation...
Good luck.......// Ernie in NH _________________ AMA,, American Deaf Bikers

I didn't remove the ball or take out the old one, I just put a new mirror over the old one, The only reason I'm thinking it may not stay put now is from the added weight of two mirror's. _________________ 1993 K-1100LT. 1986 K-75C . 1992 K75RT. 1976 Honda CB 750A |
