I've finally mated my new sidecar to my new K1100RS and managed a few rides in this cold weather; its becoming pretty clear to me that the front ABS, at least, is a potential liability when used with the sidecar. It kicks in just as its supposed to but because of the sidecar it jerks the front end sideways each time it pulses.

So - my ABS will be coming off. I know there are several posts on this, and that the smart money is on buying a non-ABS kit, as I don't have the standard non-ABS lines to match up to. Goodridge makes such a kit, but only available in the UK as far as I can tell. Anyone know of a US source?

I can order from the UK via the web, but I still find it a little easier dealing with a US co, if possible - in the unlikely event something is wrong its much easier to deal with returns, etc...

TIA,

Sam

Sam,

Spiegler USA has ABS and non-ABS kits. http://www.spieglerusa.com/brakes/cycle-brake-line-kits.html

To find a non-ABS kit for your '93 you might want to specify '92 K100RS.

The '92 and '93 are identical (except for the lower bodywork) I previously had a '93 RS and now have a '92.

Someone here has also sourced lines for their RS from a different company but the details escape me right now.

Hope this helps?

BTW, I am just a couple hours north of you. I would like to see the finished 'car product sometime.

John

I also have a K100 EZS sidecar combo. It was purchased assembled with ABS already removed but I have had brake lines made for other rides.

I'm sure you can find a shop (M/C, race car, truck etc) in your area that makes up brake lines.

Take a piece of the old line with you so you can show them the size/type banjo fittings needed. Different angles are available to ease routing. Measure carefully for length - a piece of rope may help tying it into place of line.

Have fun with your new ride.

A good site to ask questions on too http://www.sidecar.com/

Thanks for the input! Spiegler only shows their ABS kits online, but maybe they do have them if I call. As far as making my one up or having them made - my experience is that not hard at all, but always easier and usually cheaper to buy a kit when you can.

Ill call Spiegler, and if they don't have one probably go the EBay route.

You could also try to call Galfer.

What I've done for my rigs is buy AN adapters to fit the master cylinder and calipers, then buy braided stainless lines.

Two good sources,

http://www.anplumbing.com/

http://www.summitracing.com/

Also I try to use hard lines as much as possible, even from the master cylinder to a tee on the lower triple tree, where it changes to braided stainless to the front wheel and a short peice of stainless to a hard line to the sidecar.
