As you folks know I was interested in selling my Boxer Cup R1100S. Stick with me here- a bit longwinded but....um.....?????
Placed ads on a few forums- little interest. So.....
OK, I'll stoop to dealing with the dregs of the Earth- CraigsList- where the unclean class hangs out.
What follows is a summary of the comedy that ensued.
Placed a CL ad 2 weeks ago, asking for $4800
Immediately received 3 responses- I will call them Moe, Larry and Curley. I replied to all 3 noting that the bike at one point was a "Manufacturers Buyback"- I never had a problem with it.
Moe responds that because of the Buyback the bike is worth MUCH less than my asking price and will negotiate for somewhere less than $4000. I reply no thanks and move to the other Stooges. Moe then replies that he has had second thoughts and $4800 is OK. I reply that I have another buyer and Moe goes ballistic, calling the bike (that he wanted to buy) a LEMON- his upper case word. Goodbye Moe.
Larry is now front and center. He has no problem with the Buyback title. He wants the bike NOW. We set it up for 2 days ago (Wednesday). Never shows up. I email him that I have another buyer. His response yesterday:
Quote: | Kool my girl friend and I just broke up yesterday
Sorry I didn't call
I'm hurting really bad |
2 Stooges down, one left.
Curley (real name: Loric) has been looking at other R1100S but each one (according to him) has some problems. He would like to come and see mine. His email from Tuesday- 3 days ago
Quote: | If I don't like the bike I looking at today I will be trying to get over to see you. Kids are on holiday next week and we are going to be in Tamworth area all week. Would be easy to see the bcr then if you still have it. I'll let you know either way. |
(note: kids around here are on vacation next week and Tamworth is close by- so it seems genuine) BUT.....
Then yesterday I get this little gem:
Quote: | Hello,
I am sorry for reaching you rather too late due to the situation of things right now. My family and I had a trip visiting (Manila,Philippines), everything was going on fine until last night when we got attacked by some unknown gunmen. All our money, phones and credit cards was stolen away including some valuable items, It was a terrible experience but the good thing is they didn't hurt anyone or made away with our passports.
We have reported the incident to the local authorities and the consulate but their response was too casual, we were ask to come back in 2weeks time for investigations to be made proper,But the truth is we can't wait till then as we have just got our return flight booked and is leaving in few hours from now but presently having problems sorting out our bills here and also getting a cab down to the airport, Right now we're financially strapped due to the unexpected robbery attack, Wondering if you can help us with a quick loan to sort our bills and get back home. All we need is ($1,650.00 USD)or anything you can afford, I promise to refund you in full as soon as I return hopefully tomorrow or next. write back now to let me know what you can do.
Thank You

At least Cathy and I got a good laugh out of it.
BTW, I think I'll just keep the bike for a while _________________ John & Cathy

I have two thoughts: First I have had mostly really good experiences with CL and I think the normal people are out there too, they just get drowned out sometimes.
Second, if any of you out there are thinking you might be interested in this bike, you could not do better than to deal with John (Sugar Hill). I would buy anything from him based on his representation with confidence, without even seeing it if need be. _________________ Jim
