I'm new to the K bike having owned BMW R bikes most of my life,
So I brought a 94 K1100rs picked it up and hid it in the barn. I started the
bike on the trailer, and it was started at the dealers at pick-up time.
So it's in the barn, I go to start it up and NOTHING I did not even get
a hum from the fuel pump. G/D the first thing my wife will say is.... YOU
brought another motorcycle that's dead!. So I call a buddy up and as
if he has a idea???? PICK UP THE SIDE STAND. I did, and it starts.
Is the center stand also wired as a starter lock out? Can I by-pass
the side stand/Starter lock-out? GREAT BIKE> I love it after 5 miles.
It's like being on a 120volt motor. I never knew how the other half lived.

Hi Bob - the center stand does not have a switch.
You can easily bypass the sidestand switch - but the first time you make a left turn with the sidestand down you're probably in for an unpleasant surprise. _________________ Jim

Yeah, the SS switch can be bypassed.
If you are NOT religious in your take off routine you will screw up and take off with it down. Depending on several factors the end result can be humourous to dangerous, not to mention possibly expensive.
Having siad that, I have mine by-passed with the factory plug for that purpose. I at times stop and need to step away from the bike. Mail a letter and the like.
My routine is AWAYS the same. This is whether I've been off the bike for 60 hours or sixty seconds.
When sitting on the bike, with it running and BEFORE riding away.
Check signal left, then right. Check front brake and back brake. Check suspension by bouncing front holding checked front brake. Bounce on seat, nothing excesssive, I'm just checking to see it all feels OK.
Last but not least check the side stand. Now clutch and engage gear box, ready to go.
All my previous bikes prior to this K have had NO safety switch on the side stand.
If you don't ride a lot or have a system that works for you, it's safer NOT by-passing it. _________________ 1993 K1100RS that I'd rather be riding FAST!
