Hello!

I have found a BMW service bulletin explaining how to torque and shim K1/ K100/ K1100 frame to engine. The objective of the procedure is to avoid frame stress in order to reduce vibrations - the bulletin says.
Yet I can't find any information about the way the gear box should be bolted to frame. OK, there are torque values, but no information about shims. I can clearly see, two washers on left side gear box bolt. The mentioned bulletin and parts catalogue indicates distance shim at left front frame mounting, but non at gearbox.
Any experience in that matter?

Best regards,

What I read in it, start with a 1mm shim at the right front frame to engine, no shims at the trans mission connections to frame.

Tighten the right front frame to engine, right rear lower frame to transmission, left rear lower frame to transmission.

Shim the remaining gap at the left front frame to engine and tighten.

Shim the remaining gap at the right rear upper frame to intermediate housing connection and tighten.

Scott_Anderson that was my understanding of the case too, yet I got confused when I looked at my current bike setup.

Best regards,

As i recall, when i switched frames on my LT, i ended up with a large gap at that very location...so i shimmed with a thick bronze washer which just happened to 'fit'.

Seems to be working just fine...i must have followed the correct procedure, no noticeably worse vibration, may have improved it, rides great.
