My faithful 95K11RS with over 100K Miles is having a hissy fit. The oil indicator light is coming on at low speeds and going of when I get over 60mph. The oil level is half way up. It gets hot at low speeds and the cools down at high Speeds. Could is be just a sensor switch problem or should I be concerned about the oil pump going bad and how long can I go in this situation. I will able to get it fixed in two weeks . I am In Italy now and I do not really want to take it to local shop.

Until you can get an actual oil pressure reading(value) you really can't say if it's the switch or the pump......

For that you will need to connect a pressure gauge to the port where the switch is.

Hi !
Also the oil pressure is related to engine revs not motorcycle speed. Verify how lamp reacts to higher revs. Another thing to check is electrical connection form the switch to instrument cluster.

Best regards,

Rafal and Scott
Thanks for info. I meant engine speed. I Will try to get the oil pressure checked. I rode it today and it seem to cool down when engine is up to 3 to 4K . So I am leaning towards the sensor but I will get the pressure checked. Thanks again

Ken

Years ago I rode a Triumph. My oil light was coming on at low revs. My father who had owned Triumphs for years said "Its the sender I will get you one" and slapped a piece of electrical tape over the light. I rode about 500 miles then I put the sensor on, same thing. Opps. Yeah the pump was shot. Park the bike until you know for sure what the problem is.
