Hey guys, anyone live in or near Oban that can help me out? I am riding a K1100lt around Scotland and as I pulled into Oban this evening it just died on me.Battery has power, fuses are OK but there is no power to the bike. RAC have had a look but didn't really know what was wrong, so I am now stuck here until.either the local bike shop opens or I am recovered home to Salisbury. If there are any BMW ninjas out there who could help I would be most grateful...

Confused Confused Confused Confused

G'Evening Vicar...

First question... are there 'lights' of any kind when the ignition is keyed on ??.. or is there just a total loss of any power indication ??

When doing the diagnosis... remember that BMW has a very convoluted "earthing" system.. be sure to check the sidestand switch first since it seems to to be "key" to everything.. then move on to the major "earthing points" ie: just in front of the starter to begin with !! Got a schematic ?? (in the Riders manual along with the the data stats.)

I know you're sleeping somewhere now, but soon others will join in who may have had similar sudden failures...I experienced this once myself and it was in fact the "earth" ( ie: ground ) in front of the starter.

Good luck....// Ernie in New Hampshire ( USA )

Welcome.

Question - when you turn the key, do you hear the fuel pump?

No it wasn't me. Seems he asked for help on two forums. I just happen to read both of them. Currently in a field in Dorset, some 500 miles south of Oban. Glad he's sorted.
