Hey everyone.
I have wanted a BMW bike for many years and finally settled in on a 1993 k1100rs. 33k on the clock. Took possession last thurs and have already put a few hundred on it. Runs great, rides great and isnt too hard on the eyes.
I got caught in some rain yesterday. This morning I washed her up real nice. OOPS.......No fuel pump now. Im letting her dry hope that takes care of it. I am always gentile with the water. Yes I use water. After drying I use aerospace 303. I have read several posts with fuel pump issues. I find it overwhelmingly suspicious that this happened after washing. Im wondering if anyone else has had this problem solely from washing? I cant seem to find any posts specific to fuel pumps and washing.
I have turned the key on and flipped the kill switch. the gas gauge is switching on and off. at the kickstand I can hear a micro switch clicking (not to say its working). It is also in neutral. I have taken it back in the garage out of the New Mexico sun. We Will see if the fuel pump works later.
Thanks,
Heres a pic of her

Fred,
First of all....WELCOME.
I would first look at the 4 pin connector under the right rear of the gas tank and see that it is fully seated and dry.

I took it apart and measured the voltage when I turn the key on and got 12v.
Put it back together and it started up. The bike is in pretty good shape as it sat in a showroom for the last 8 yrs. All the connections look to be in exceptional shape. OH well it worked so all is well. thanks for the direction. |

Glad you got her running and welcome. Your bike shows well next to that Testa Rosa. _________________ '93 K1100LT

Old thread but I should have let everyone know it was the 4 pin connector as suggested. |

Fred your bike looks great. I have the same model, year , colour over in Oz. Similarity ends there , yours is the best example i've ever seen. As far as the fuel pump goes chasing errant electrons is par for the course. Still a great bike.
Cheerio
