Once I get the FD gearing change done is there an easy way to make sure that the reading on the speedometer will be correct.? On a GSXR that I owned several years ago the was a little electronic gizmo that allowed changes to it's speedometer reading after gearing changes.

Anyone know of a similar device for my '97 K11LT?

Yes, buy a GPS and mount it.

Doing it the right way involves a little more work and taking the instrument cluster apart, but there is an adjsutment for it.
This is in the tech stickies I'm sure.

A mod will be along soon to post a link, just wanted to let you know it is possible.

You shouldn't have to worry about it as the speedo pickup ring is mounted to the same point that the rear wheel bolts to. Your gearing changes only will affect the engine rpm's, but the wheel speed will still remain the same.

There is a small calibration "pot" inside the inst cluster, but you have to open up the cluster and partially dismantle it to access it.

Read the 2nd post in this thread for links and details.

Thanks Scott! That's great news and it makes sense as well. I'll read the link that you posted but if it was good before (and it was) it should be now.

If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Regardless of the gearing, a K bike final drive puts out the same pulses per rotation.

They all come from the factory running about 10% high though.

Considering that the K-Bike speedo's run 10% high and GPS's are spot-on...the GPS might be the right way to do it. Just sayin'
I've got one on my BCR. I've found that when Johnny Law falls in behind me it's great to know exactly how fast I'm going.[/i]

GPSs aren't the most accurate thing around. It depends upon how often they cycle. My TomTom Rider is useless as a speedo unless I'm riding at a constant speed.

And they're useless in tunnels.

and/or thick overgrowth.
If it can't see the sky for more than 1 satellite, it does no good.

I used the universal wiring harness of an earlier version of this

http://www.healtech-electronics.com/products/sh/

I'm not familiar with the new version but its worth a look.

The "problem" with speedohealeers is that they also cut the odometer back by 10% - which I suppose isn't a bad thing when selling your bike. Very Happy
