When Steve arrived, he with 4 others picked up my bike and put her on the sidewalk out of the on and off rain. He helped me put it back together correctly and without him I don't think I would have done it correctly. I really mean that. I would not have known how to align the two universal joints or how to check and correct the pivot pin depth or even remove the broken drive shaft from the housing.

Ron keeping a watchful eye on progress.

All done. Bless her little K1100RS heart.

He also test rode it for me.

Devil Dog (John) had already left over an hour before we finished so it was just Steve and I. I had already paid up for my stay at Rose Wood because at that point there was no way I wasn't going to spend the rest of my time riding with my husband.

I said my goodbyes and got in a few hugs for the guys there (not all had returned from riding) then hastily loaded my bike.

The ride was good, the roads fair and the weather ok, but I was beyond exhausted and something else I couldn't put my finger on.

We arrived late to the ADV event. I had had a bad prior 2 days with the broken drive shaft when the universal joint failed catastrophically within 5 miles of the start. I had spent $1150 I didn't expect to, had inconvenienced a lot of people AND didn't get to go on the ride I so wanted to.
Moody, exhausted bitch would be the best way to describe me. I didn't have the emotional energy to engage with people well.

I just wanted to decompress. I was in fact fighting back tears and trying to not snap at anyone. So I focused on getting my stuff repacked correctly, found my shampoo and soap then took a very much needed shower.

Walt, God bless him, came to the cabin to visit. Hell, if his enthusiasm doesn't cheer you, you might be dead.
I then felt well enough to walk up the hill and I was glad I did. I deeply enjoyed seeing my very dear friends again.
I was honored to sign my first ever IBA witness form for my friend Sarah's Bun Burner ride.

I can't do crowds anymore so I apologize for not going up to the big fire. More than a dozen or so is all I can deal with anymore and I cannot do loud at all.

Again, please forgive me.

Walt, Steve, Roy, John and Pansy

I dedicate this Non-Ride Report to my husband because he has it tough living with a hard headed woman.

Wow Gwen, that was quite a non-ride report!

Thanks for the great photos and personal glimpse.

I'm all too familiar with '93 drive shaft failures, as you might remember...

Sorry your trip didn't quite go as planned.

Sad to hear about your fellow riding friend getting busted up, that's always scary to hear about, I hope he's OK and doing better.

Take care, rest up (if you can) and remember the cool things you experienced.

That was quite an adventure you had!

Alright Gwen......this is probably one of the strangest trip reports I have read.

Thanks for the pictures. Wish you could have spent the time riding and not wrenching. You and your K sure have been through some fun and tough times.

I guess if you have to be addicted to something, LD riding is a good thing.

Gwen - did you miss the warning in the owners manual that carrying a toolkit that weighs in excess 20 kg may cause premature U-joint failure?

You don't need a frickin' socket for the locknut. Actually a crescent wrench is better because once you've torqued the pivot, you can hold it in place with an Allen wrench while tightening the lock nut with a crescent wrench.

You do need to use a metric crescent wrench though.

Broken clavicle AND pelvis? Yikes.

What was the root cause of the FP?

Best wishes to him for a speedy and full recovery.

(There but for the grace of God go I. At least for now.)

On a side note; I'm so disgusted with my riding, friends crashing and major break downs I don't want to even look at a motorcycle. For the first time since 1999 I loath being in the garage. I don't even want to fix what's broken much less invest another minute riding.

I beleve this will pass...but for now I'm stepping 100% away.

As for the K11, it’s the only bike I have ever loved, if I can’t ride it, I won’t ride at all.

My internal angst or whatever it is, is not about the K11. On this ride, ‘something broke’ or just plain died. My style of riding (LD) riding causes a great amount of severe stress and some anger in Steve. I love him dearly and if I love him, how can my desire to ride the way I want, where I want and with whom be more important than his happiness?

I cannot justify it.

So Drake, far now, tools will no longer be an issue.

Gwen, sorry to hear that.

Step away and take a breather. Get back to riding if and when you feel like it.

It's been over a year now.

Things are getting better.
