Gidday Folks,

Firstly I hope you all had a Merry Christmas!! and are starting to get primed up for the New Years.

Now for my info searching question to you all, oh and btw does the "search" button on this website work any good? as I put in "springs" and nothing came up, just wondering!!

OK "front springs" as in forks! is my topic of conversation and I am wondering what are good replacements for my "1993 LT" as the bike has 153,00kms on it now and I have nothing to really go by because I have not ridden another "K" model bike before I brought this.

It is running so bloody sweetly and smooth along the Hwy but the other day I went down a sealed road that was a little rough in places and the front end felt hard and a little to loud for a big heavy smooth tourer that I would expect to "soak up" these sort of bumps, actually my old 81 R100rs would a sucked them up nicer and that is all I have to go by..

Any aftermarket brands you can suggest from experience??

Grant,

I have a set of Racetech fork springs that would suit you.
I only replaced them as I ended up having major surgery done on the front end, which involved modifying cartridges from a Kawasaki ZXR250 (full dampening in both directions) and thus had to change the fork springs to suit. PM me if you are interested.

With the front I would recommend Steve Cramer Products who is the agent for Ohlins.

They sent me a set of springs which I adjusted to my liking by putting in different length spacers. Got some aluminium tubing cut with 5mm different lengths both ways from standard. I used 10w oil with them.

I have to say also fixing the front will show the rear up so much more.

Gidday Folks,

The bike came with an near new Koni fitted so that was a bonus and yes I will be curious to see and feel the difference once I install some new springs.

I just picked up the WP springs for my K1100RS from Ted's House (http://www.verrill.com/moto/tech/k11springs/k11springs.shtml)and expect to get them in by this spring. You might check out the site for other info. Smile

Yes - the search button works - I just searched for springs and got 258 hits.

This past spring (pun intended) I put in Race Tech springs sized for me...90kg w/ 15wt oil.
Replaced the oem shock with a Hyperpro...also tailored for me.
It's not my Boxer Cup...but it handles great for a 600 pound bagger.
Took it down the Blue Ridge Parkway and around Deals Gap this summer and had a blast!!!

thanks for the replies and I now have a pair of Race Tech springs sitting in the Melbourne Mail Centre as we speak and hopefully arriving very soon on my doorstep so I will let you know of the outcome once installed

Does anyone have contact info for Ted Verrill? I'd like to buy a set of the WP fork springs but seem to be running into old, or invalid, email addresses for both Ted and White Brothers.

When Anton installed springs on the K, he used pvc pipe for the spacers.

David - I haven't had any contact with Ted for awhile now, but I never heard him mention having any fork springs for sale for a K11. Ted rides a K75...

PVC pipe is cheap. I think you can buy it by the foot at most stores...

Though as a kit it should include everything, next week I'll ride with. a linear and a progressive spring because of that.

David,

I can't find much on White Power springs for K bikes on the net. I used to be able to find the WP website - can't even find that, now. I know the company changed their name. When I was searching for springs, I ended up calling the Canadian dealer, who referred me to Jim Lindemann at Lindemann Engineering in California. Jim Lindemann is widely known for excellence in engineering race bike suspensions. Jim died in 2011.

I got my springs from Jim Lindemann. The K bikes come with progressive wound springs - Jim said that linear springs would be better for the K than progressive. I don't know if the springs I ended up with were WP or some other brand. I do know that Lindemann Engineering was (at the time) the only dealer in the US for WP springs.

Try contacting LE Lindemann Engineering - see if they're willing to help you.

Also, take a look at Anton Largiader's website for important information. The damper cartridges had to be turned on a lathe - the new springs had a slightly smaller inside diameter.

on the topic of front springs and shocks ,, I have to do seal kits this spring ,, is there anything in particular that I should watch out for ?,,or is this a pretty straight forward job,(I haven't gotten the manual out yet,Still busy with renovations in the house)I did seals on my old Kawasaki and you have to bang the crap out of them to separate the two shafts,,Thanks , Hilton
