Duh, dummer here just noticed the search function on top of the page! So as Emily Latilla used to say, "Never mind". Using the proper form of searching first all was answered. Great forum.
I just got a Kisan turn signal canceler and am not too sure about how to get to the relay box. It appears to be under the rear end of the fuel tank. I read more or less how to get to the box by removing the fuel tank something which seems kinda major just to get at the relays. Is it necessary to drain the tank first? Is there enough slack in the cables and fuel lines that one could just raise the rear of the tank to change a relay?
Any help with this would be appreciated. The arthritis in my right thumb makes using the canceling switch pretty painful at times. _________________ Paul W.

You should probably disconnect the wiring harness at the right rear. 4 conductor connector, white-green-brown-yellow most likely behind the right side cover.
There is also the possibility of 2 rubber hoses also connected at the right rear of the tank on the underside. Your bike may or may not have them depending on weather or not a previous owner had an "accumulator cup" installed, which would eliminate the need for the hoses.

As far as the fuel lines, there should be enough slack in them to be able to move the tank once the other stuff is disconnected. No need to drain the tank. Hopefully you didn't just fill it....... _________________ Ride safe.

Thanks for the additional information! I've done down to the frame rebuilds on a couple of Goldwings (1100 & 1500) but the BMWs are new to me. I'm favorably impressed with this 1100LT both in handling and construction. My '94 is in very good shape for it's age and mileage, obviously been well kept so getting it back into OEM shape isn't going to be all that much work. I wasn't sure how I'd like this bike after years of riding Goldwings but this machine is great. I like it's smaller size and lighter weight and quick handling. It didn't take long for this one to make a new fanboy. _________________ Paul W.

Just a follow up, as expected you guys were right. Popping off the tank was a piece of cake, three nuts on the seat and two clips and I could prop the rear of the tank up enough to get to the relay box. I installed the Kisan unit, buttoned her back up and viola no more aching thumb. The canceler works great and has some interesting extra features making the normal time out cancelling adjustable, 10, 20, 30 seconds, quick flash turn signal for lane changes and allows use of the turn signal lights as running lights in three different intensities. It wasn't cheap but this mod was well worth it to me in convenience and making the ride a lot less painful. The more I deal with this bike the better I like it. _________________ Paul W.

I've looked at the Kisan unit in the past but didn't pursue it as the built-in signal cancel system isn't that bad and just took some getting used to. _________________ Ride safe.

It's actually 8, 30 or 45 seconds.
You can also run LEDs with a SignalMinder.
If you use Run-N-Lites or the SgnalMinder running lights with incandescent bulbs then the heat generated will eventually start to warp the rear turn signal lenses. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Maybe Kisan changed the circuitry a bit because the unit I have runs 10, 20 and 30 second intervals according to my watch. I just rechecked it and that's what I get. I did program the running light feature off though I don't think the low setting would damage the socket or lens but there's no real reason to use up the bulbs for that anyway. If I wanted them on low at night it just takes a click of the four way switch while holding the cancel switch on to toggle through the three settings of the running lights. The lights don't show much in daylight on low anyway. _________________ Paul W.
