hat tip to the service guy at spiegler brakes for the following info
did you have a brake hose failure . has it developed a leak or an unsightly bludge and you need to buy a new and improved brake hose from an after market supplier because the oem is just to dam expensive ... well think again and here is why.
in the overall history of transportation vehicles the modern electronic type of ABS is realitivity a new invention that can trace its roots back to the early portion of jet aircraft .
as we all know the development was very rapid at that time and this is were EARLY abs has it roots. early ABS system on aircraft were of a manual style in which using prefromance charts the pilots would dial in the needed brake pressure in order to stop the aircraft on runway. this system if used correctly would allow the pilots during landing to get the maximun braking effect without locking up the tyres and skidding all over the runway and making for a really bad day of filling out paperwork and what nots.
simple and safe but not useful on small vehicles untill modern electronics evolved. which leads me to my point of why you should not replace a single hose in a multi hose set up.
all rubber hoses give and that give is factored into the programing of the ABS systems if you replace one braided stainless steel hose in the multi hose system you will get error codes on the abs computer because you have changed the pressure setting by using a re enforced hose. this is more important in LINKED braking systems
this also explaines why after market suppliers sell kits that include all the need hoses and parts to swap out oen parts. they will sell you a single hose but they advise against you using it .

Doesn't make sense to me...
You should change all hoses because if one fails it's likely the others are also going to fail. _________________ I am not a number, I am a free man.

So what it sounds like to me is: Braided lines are still ok, so long as you replace them all as a set. Not mix them with oem rubber lines. _________________ Ride safe.

While sound in principle, I think for our bikes that pressure varience is not as specific OR as delicate as you might suggest.
I've replaced my front hoses but not the one from the MC to the main hard line under the tank. 93 K 11RS I will get to it, honest.
All in all the system is tight and solid and performs better than before.
I got my set up from Cycle brakes, and while I made it work it needs some tweaking. That's a post for another day. _________________ 1993 K1100RS that I'd rather be riding FAST!

Great point.... Loosing the front brake quite exciting if the handle went to the bar and you were waiting for the deceleration feel and approaching an obstacle in an unplanned way!!
I was up in Hillisboro, Oregon on a road trip (aviation job) 20 years ago, and met the (I think he was German) engineer that wrote the software for BMW on the first abs motorcycle project.... He was quite a character, did everything in his head with pencil and paper.... at the bar drinking copious amounts of bier.... He was developing software for Intel's conveyer belts...
The biggest problem they had with developing the SW for 2 Wheel ABS, was the cobblestones in Europe...
