I'm currently considering purchasing a 1994 K1100LT but I can find no vin number on the bike. Also, there is no stamp number on the frame which should be stamped on the right side of the frame above the rear master cylinder. This naturally has me concerned. I currently own two other K1100LT's and the vin number is printed on a paper sticker wrapped around the fram on the left side (when sitting on bike). I have noticed that it is common for this paper/serial number to be rubbed off as it has been partialy on my 95 LT. I was surprised that the vin was only printed on the paper and not stamp in the frame. Is the vin number stamped any where on the frame? With no vin stamped on the bike I can't be certain the title is actually the correct one for the bike. Can the engine number be used to verifiy that the vin on the title is correct? I could find no information which confirms the engine or frame is dedicated to a particular serial number.

Both of my LT's are stamped on the right side above the right side peg mounting plate. They are both visible with the side cover in place on the tube that "Y"'s to the left(rear).
I seriously doubt that you can use the engine #, as engines can be changed.....
I noticed no other stampings on either of my bikes, not even on the headstock where some other branded bikes are stamped.

Could it be that someone "filled" the stamping and then repainted the frame?
I can't imagine that the vin was not stamped.
Check for any welding repairs on the right side, ie- damaged tubing replaced....... legitimate reason to walk away.
