|
|
Looks like the dates for 2015 are Wednesday, April 29 through Sunday, May 3.
The Lodge is reserved!
Everyone who is planning on attending, please email me - click on email at the bottom of the post. I am not guaranteeing lodging - first come, first served. If you reserve a bunk, room or cabin, and find you can't make the event, you need to make every effort to sell your bunk, room or cabin to someone else. I am not guaranteeing refunds. Be prepared to arrange payment when you reserve a bunk.
All relevant information will be kept here in the top post - the *updated* date in the subject line will change when the post is updated.

Hungry Mother website
Hungry Mother weather
"Hungry Mother Lodge - Six bedroom lodge (Sleeps 15 maximum - for our purposes, at this point, it sleeps 11). It's a great place for a get-together. (There are no bed rentals for lodge.) This log lodge offers a view of the park. It was originally built by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in the 1930s.
Six bedrooms: Master bedroom with a double bed, three bedrooms with queen size beds, one with two sets of bunk beds (making four beds), and one bedroom with a single bed and a set of bunk beds (making three beds). There are three baths total - one in the master bedroom, and two hall baths for the other 5 rooms.
Sleeps 15. Allows 15; no cots for rent.
Kitchen: Refrigerator, dishwasher, stove, coffeemaker, dishes, dishcloth, a few dish towels, silverware, cooking utensils, pots and pans, microwave oven, toaster, clock radios. Also includes rustic furniture and linens (one set per person). Lodge is climate controlled (heat and AC). Bring food, dish detergent, extra dish towels, coffee filters, coffee, salt and pepper, and motorcycles.
Porch, large deck and picnic shelter, washer and dryer, gas grill, gas fireplace" (The gas fireplace sucks - the fire out by the shelter is much better - as long as we can scrounge enough wood!)
As before, I am not guaranteeing lodging. Those who are planning to attend need to email me - I'll get back to you with payment information as soon as I make the reservation. (C) = cabin, (P) = private room, (B) = bunk.
Plan to arrive at 4 PM or later.

.
A proposal for discussion based on talk over the campfire.
6 BEDROOM LODGE - 2015
Off season, nightly rate for VA resident
Est. cost for 2015 = $1433.00 per conversation with park staff.
Est. cost per person per bunk = $95.50
Est. cost per Private room is double bunk price for single or double occupancy.
1 Main Private - Jim always gets = $191.00
Private # 1 = $191.00
Private # 2 = $191.00
Private # 3 = $191.00
3 Bunk Bedroom
Bunk # 1 = $95.50
Bunk # 2 = $95.50
Bunk # 3 = $95.50
4 Bunk Bedroom
Bunk # 1 = $95.50
Bunk # 2 = $95.50
Bunk # 3 = $95.50
Bunk # 4 = $95.50
If staying less than 4 nights, the price is the same.
If we have open bunks or private rooms after the weekend starts and we have a drop-in guests the price is nightly rate of $50 per Bunk and $100 per private room. The numbers are higher than the pre-pay but that's life. It will encourage people to commit who are really going and help cover the cost for any unsold rooms for Jim.
Cancellation date with full refund is 60 days prior to May 1st. (March 2nd)
No expected refunds if canceling after March 2nd. If the bunk or room is filled it will be first cancel, first refund.
At the end of the weekend, any remaining Lodge Rental fees will be paid by those who attended.
Jim should NEVER carry that burden alone.

Jim,
Give me 36 hours. Cathy would really like to come but she has to clear the dates with her school's principal. She will ask tomorrow.
UPDATE- Cathy is a no-go.
Further UPDATE- the quiet, pastoral scenery will allegedly be destroyed by an OTG presence. We'll see........ _________________ John & Cathy

I'm interested. How much riding, wrenching or just socializing time is it? long trips, day trips or less? _________________ 2014 R1200RT Water Cooled

Cool!
No long trips - not even all day trips - just local stuff. There's a pretty good mix of riding, wrenching and socializing. But, it's not a forced march - you can hang out, ride, wrench or socialise as much or as little as you want.
Except for the campfire - you are required to attend that. _________________ Jim

Ok, I checked the schedule of life and I'm coming. I make venison chili in the crock pot, so I'll make a batch and freeze it to bring. I usually have some venison summer sausage as well.
I don't know if the shaft has ever been off my bike but I'd like help checking it out. Most of the routine maintenance I've done, but maybe sync throttle bodies, and other things as they come to mind.
Looking forward too it!

Better reserve a bunk before you pack... There are 4 bunks left - and I haven't heard from some of the regulars yet.

HEY, is anybody else coming???
PLEASE send Jim your money if you are coming to the K11OG meet of the year. Jim has about $800 in unpaid attendance on his credit card for HM VIII. This is not fair to him.

I need some ideas from you guys.
I really, really want to go to HM next year. Really.
But I'm having a bitch of a time working the logistics of it.
I'm going to have, max 2 weeks off from work to make this work. I live in CA near Yosemite.
Here's the kicker....I want to see friends/family up in NY as well and will most likely be coming with my GF.
We are both riders, but in no way hard-core. 10-12hrs on a bike 2-up is not doable, and carrying 2 weeks worth of supplies/clothes with a woman what is not accustomed to doing so is again, not doable.
I was thinking of flying into NY and renting a car for local use, then renting a bike for HM. We will need a "home base" so to speak that we can fly into with all our shit before HM.
Fuck, this is complicated. If it was just me I'd fucking ride out there. _________________ Bane of your existence since July 2006

This is from someone whose closest involvement in HM was through my local friend Phil and who now finds himself lacking the confidence to ride a bike for any distance.
But for all of that, my sense of HM is not that it is about bikes but about friends who share a common interest and a common history.
So my sense is that HM would be meaningful for both you and the other folks if you simply took care of all the things on your East Coast agenda and drove the rental car down to HM with your SO.
I don't think anyone of this forum would challenge your creds for participating that way...
Larry Johnson
Still reading, just not riding.
PS: FWIW: I still have all the bikes in my signature block, but am working on a gifting plan for insuring that they still get ridden when I no longer can... _________________ 1993 K1100LT (Washington)

Dave, at this point I'm trailering out to HM as my wife can't do that distance on a bike.
If I can work the logistics of loading, I'd be willing to bring out both of my bikes if that would interest you.... _________________ Ride safe.
