Hi Gents,
Its been eons since checked in on K11OG due to lots of changes in my life.
Ive got the K11 out of hibernation and she'll be getting regular exercise.
The only issue after a couple of years idle is the rear brake master cylinder is leaking and needs replacing. The ABS was taken off the bike a few years ago and the brakes were fine.
A local BMW breaker has used spares but insists I need to replace the standard 12mm cylinder with a 13mm due to the ABS being removed !!!
I suspect they only have 13mm cylinders in stock and don't want to loose a sale.
My logic tells me the ABS is passive until triggered so if 12mm is ok before the ABS triggers then it will be OK without ABS.
Does anyone know if the breaker has a valid argument or just blowing smoke out his ass to make a sale ???
Cheers

| I removed ABS from my K1100LT replaced all brake lines but kept original master cylinder. It's been two years now, nearly 20,000 miles and no braking issues. I don't believe that the surface area gained/lost by a 1mm diameter difference (12 versus 13) would have a noticeable impact on braking power but then I am no design engineer. The brakes work when i need them. |

I had a leak and installed a rebuild kit in mine. No further leaks. Your Spidey sense is correct, the 12mm was fine with ABS, will be fine without.
Ask if they have a rebuild kit for the 12mm, I bought mine from Beemer Boneyard.
Also, not a design engineer, but MAS in Aeronautical Science, so yeah, I think you'll be OK. _________________ 2014 R1200RT Water Cooled
