Bought a set of Spiegler stainless brake lines for my LT, and went to install them today. Started with rear line to master cylinder and the threaded part is the wrong size. The end that threads into he master cylinder of the stainless is a smaller diameter than the new lines. I don't think the master cylinder had ever been replaced, is an RS a bigger thread? Maybe someone had replaced it before?

According to MAX BMW site there are two depending on build date. To 7/93 and from 7/93. Different part numbers for the MC and the line.

Chuck - is that the only one that's wrong? Spiegler will make it right - although I realize that's an inconvenience.

The kit Spiegler has was made from the brake lines on my '97. If you have an older K, I guess some of the parts are different.

Of course, FD will tell you to buy them from Galfer... That said, I've had no problems with the Spiegler lines. Probably time for new ones, though. I had those put on shortly after I bought the bike. They've been on there for 15 years.

I sent Spiegler an email. Looking through MAX, there are different build dates not sure what the difference is. I know I have a late build date but will have to look it up again.

Doesn't say what the difference is, but I have to assume the thread size is a big part of it, like the late 93's used the lines they used on the 94's maybe? If anyone has a 93 and a 94 can you check them? The "large" line uses a 14mm wrench, the smaller line is like 10mm or so.

I'm off to St Louis in the morning for a week, will swap the rest of the lines when I get back except the MC to modulator one.

DOH! So, when look at the parts fiche on MAX, the connection to the rear MC is attached with a banjo bolt. On my bike it's threaded in. Can anyone tell me how the line from the MC to the ABS 1 modulator attaches to the MC?

Is this what you wanted to see (my RS might be different than your LT?)

or do you need the connection from the modulator to the caliper?

Nope, the line with the red bandages down to the master cylinder. The MC connection is the one i need a picture of.

Mine has a straight threaded inlet, but MAX BMW pics makes it look like it's supposed to be a banjo fitting. At least for an LT.

So today, with clear eyes I found out that the line did fit, it just has a different size hex, which makes the threads look too small. I did have to "clock" the rear caliper line and the two front caliper lines as well. It was easy with all of the body work off, I guess you could do it with the fairing on but it would be tight. The nightmare was getting the wire harness off the top tube under the tank to be able to unscrew the line from the front mast cylinder to the under tank hard line. Removing the plastic block it's mounted in helped a little, but it was still a pain.
