I just looked at a 96 k11100lt Looks great, 76,000 miles only down
point is a leaky front brake hose.
Please tell me the bad news.........

Also is it a 5 or 6 speed? my 94K1100RS is a 5 speed Did I get lucky?

Bob - it's a 5 speed. We're all looking for 6th gear...

A 21 year old bike needs all new brake hoses - readily available, and probably a lot of the rubber bits and vacuum hoses need to be replaced, too.

76,000 miles is nothing if it's been even reasonably well maintained.

You got lucky if the price is right.

Bob,

Congrats. These are some of the most bullet proof bikes BMW built. This group is an invaluable resource so check out all the tech stickies for info.

My 97 is on its original brake hoses although that may be because its garaged and I'm in California weather. I do need to get them replaced as Jim suggests.

The only significant issue I've had with this bike was a clutch rebuild and small oil leaks. Other than that I just keep riding it year after year.

Changing fluids is common sense maintenance and I do it on an annual cycle. Again check the tech stickies....

Well I brought the K1100LT. It's the limited edtion, came with side bags
top case with backrest, speakers, am/fm and a real BMW tank-bag. All for $1800.00 US.
I have NOT told the wife yet. So thanks for the feed back.
PS I also own a 94 K1100RS and a 96 RS that I will be parting out.
