I started with a clutch job , and replacement of all the seals .
Now I want to go a bit deeper and take a look at at the output shaft in the crankcase. Trying to track down the rattle/ light knock noise.
Needed to reseal the timing cover, crank case anyway.
I have all the covers off, and at the point of removing the bell housing. Somewhere I read a post on this, but can not find it now.
I really hope to avoid parts falling out hitting the floor.
What's the verdict on aftermarket friction disks from the beemer shop?
Thank you so much, Eric Richter. _________________ Eric R

Speak to most anyone on this side of the pond and they will tell you that aftermarket clutch plates are at least as good as the original equipment and possibly better. In the EU which you are, given your address they have to conform to a set standard or exceed it.
The possible benefit is, it will probably cost less because you are not paying for the BMW name which bumps the price up. _________________ 1997 K1100LT

Pay attention to how the starter gear is assembled when you remove the bellhousing. Makes it easier to put things back together. Not too hard to figure it out if you don't but will save you a few minutes when reassembling.
Use a good Torx bit on the 17 bellhousing bolts. The heads like to strip. Not a big deal if you do strip any Torx heads though as you can just drill the head off and once the bellhousing if off there's plenty left of them to remove with Vise-Grips or whatever.
Here's my bellhousing "cheat sheet:"

Bending up some brackets today at work to support the rear of the engine in the frame.. had a clutch centering tool made up today also.
So I can get into it a little deeper this weekend. _________________ Eric R
