|

I am riding a 1996 K1100RS SE. On a recent ride, I noticed the smell of fuel. When I looked about to see the cause I noticed that where I had started the bike and let it warm up had a fuel stain on the driveway. Similarly, when I got home and parked the bike in the drive for a bit, it left a mark.
Fuel seemed to be coming from a small rubber tube that exits right around where one's right foot would sit on the peg.
Any idea what this tube is for, and why I ended up experiencing this?
I rode again a few days later, and no issues of any kind.
Thanks!

Could be a few things. Was the tank full? Bike on the sidestand?
Tank vent clogged? You can check that by opening the filler lid when the bike is warmed up or hot - if there's a whoosh, then pressure is building up in the tank.
I can smell gas when I'm riding the K75 - don't even pay attention to that anymore. Had the same thing on the K11.
If there's gas coming out the overflow tube while you're riding (typically with engine hot and high ambient temperatures) there is a TSB for that.

Not a full tank... maybe half.
Bike was on the side stand, which is funny because I almost always put it up on the center stand. Something about the bike leaning like that always makes me think it's going to fall!
As far as the vent goes, I will check that this week.
I imagine if the vent is clogged there is a way to unclog it?
Thanks for your feedback Jim!
I'm most grateful. _________________ Chuck Keller
