1. The riding characteristics. Sporty for the twisties yet comfortable enough for a 4-6hr ride with 2 people. Fast enough to quell my lust for speed, yet feels safe.

2. The absolute freedom and the feeling of the wind in my face.

3. The utter bombproof feeling the bike has. It just does not feel like it will let me down and leave me stranded.

What are your 3 things?

My favorite things:

1) My knees never get cold

2) Spline lubes

3) The helmet lock

Rolling Eyes

Seriously though:

1) Comfort WITH performance

2) Looking over the winscreen but not getting "bugged"

3) Listening to tunes while riding

I absolutely LOVE riding my LT in good weather at high speed with no helmet, a T-shirt and Levis. I've got lots of ATGATT gear which I do wear quite a bit but for me nothing beats the feeling of being out in the country in the open air whizzing along through the turns on a solid dependable bike that I trust. (It's almost as fun as skiing.)

My three favorite things about my K:

1. I don't have to stop to smell the roses;

2. Taking the low road is as fun as taking the high road; and

3. There is no nagging voice in my personal cone of silence.

If I might add: the term "live for the moment" is best appreciated by scraping the pegs in a high speed decreasing radius onramp before hitting the open road on the way to the hills. Magical. Very Happy

I have loved my K for the last nine years for many reasons but I'd say the top three are:

1. Bottom end grunt. Great for trolling about behind cars because you'll do that alot if you live in Charlotte.

2. Hard saddle bags. You can never go back to softies once you've had these. Best used with liners so your stuff stays clean and dry and you don't have to carry nasty bags into your room on trips.

3. Build quality. This bike is pleasant to work on. Well thought out and nicely made. 103K miles and no problems with fit or finish.

Only three? Shocked Okay, I'll try to limit it to the top selections:

1. Handling.

2. Torque.

3. Heated grips, tank, seat, side panels... Ideal for cold weather riding. Very Happy

Three things I like the least:

1. Mirrors provide an excellent view of my bar ends.

2. Windscreen generates a coherent, high-energy insect beam aimed directly at my visor.

3. Heated tank, seat, side panels...

Only owning mine for a month the top 3 things that come to mind are:

1) Headlights-they are better than my truck's even when I don't have the PIAA'a running.

2) Hardbags-I use it almost every day as a commuter, and its soooo nice to have a water tight secure place for your stuff.

3) Seat-I don't find it super luxo but its I sight better than my last ride for any type of distance, and my fiance is in absolute heaven compared to what she had to endure before.

Can't say anything about reliability yet. She will have to see a season or two more with me before I can comment on that.

2. I can load up for a week and still run in the mountains!
3. The look. These bikes are just DAMN SEXY!

I first saw a beemer in 86. Fell in love with the K look. Here it is 20yrs later and the bikes are still gorgeous! I told my 2nd wife (current) that my bike doesn't sag, nag, or give me grief for running her hard...hehe. Yes, I slept on the couch that night...

Top three have alreay been covered. It's only the order that varies.

1) Hard luggage. Fun on the bike without looking like a stray dog on a weekend away.

2) Reliability. Like finding an old friend outside after a tough day.

3) ABS. I'll never consider a vehicle without it

You should consdier getting a Parabellum +2 or +4 windscreen. I'm 6-2 and have a +4 Parabellum. I can ride around with the windscreen all of the way down without a helmet and only very rarely does a bug hit my sunglasses or forehead.

that's why some of us ride the K1100LT. these do not apply. All good stuff does and longer days are easier. IMHO Smile


Yeah, I need one of those, too. My dream, to be fulfilled when I've got a fatter wallet than I have now: A K1100LT in silk blue, to match my RS.

Does Parabellum still do K1100RS screens? I went to their site, and there's no mention of it.

Oops. I thought you had an LT. On my K100RS, I added a Laminar Lip. It follows the bikes lines pretty well and got rid of the chest blast of wind I used to get. It won't make your bike an LT but it cetainly helps push the wind up higher.

Now that I've had it on for a few thousand miles, I like it even more than did orignally. It's a worthwhile mod if you ask me.

Just got back from a 2hr ride after dropping in some new rear pads and bleeding the rear system.

With the recent clutch fix/adjustment I can honestly say the bike has never run better. it's just scary fast now.

Updated 3 things:

1. The powerband. I still can't get over how much a 15 yr old bike loves to rev. From 5-8k it's just like a different bike. More than once in 3rd going from 40-80 the bike literally snaps my head back.

2. It's smooth. Granted I don't have another bike to compare it to but the bike just hums, even with the handlebar rigidity fix it's not harsh at all.

3. I highly doubt I can find a similar bike for around the same cost that does so many things so well. It hammers the twisties and can just eat up the miles if touring is your thing. With all the comforts (heated grips, full fairing, adjustable windshield, satellite radio, shaft drive, fuel injection, etc etc) to get a similar bike you are looking at 10-20K, easy. FJR? K1200GT? Concours? What other bike can be compared to the K11?


None, at least for me.

It's my 2 year anniversary of the purchase of my K for 4K.

I am more in love with it now than ever.

What I love:
    How solid it feels at 80
    The heated grips
    The stereo
    The saddlebags
    The braking performance, I've only triggered the ABS once. Shortly after I bought it, I intentionally triggered it so I'd know what to expect.
    This board. Smile
    I can dust squids on it. Laughing


What I'm not very fond of:
    The piece of crap they call a kickstand
    the trunk rack that makes the trunk bob
    The wheel has to be turned the wrong way to lock the steering column
    The oddball size rims that prefer bias ply tires
    the quarterly blowing of fork seals
    difficulty upshifting. Sometimes it's like I need a freakin crowbar
    side to side wobbling when going hard through turns.

After installing a new clutch, spline lube (of course), and Redline oil in the trans the shifts are much smoother.

1. I can work on it. Made easy by K11og (thanks Ted!).
2. Opens up a world of adventure.

When I get reemployed, I'll be getting a Wilbers shock. Not sure what fork springs. Looks like I need a new right fork tube, it's leaking slightly, despite the gaitor.

I run about 32psi on my tires.
