Corbin Seat: 1996K11RS- touring or canyon model

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm seeking votes and opinions as to which seat is best for my 1996K11RS SE. I like to tour and ride high mileage. the dual canyon looks sportier and seems to allow the bike to be emphasized more but the touring version surely looks more 'sit in the bucket' all day comfy.

What does the list think?

Cheers,
Ned 'Ton up' Beck

trying to enclose image links from the corbin site but not sure if i got it right...

I use Russell Daylong for touring and Corbin Gunfighter for everything else.

I have the Dual Canyon and it is as comfortable as can be for the wife and I.

*Edit*

In my biased opinion, looks the coolest out of any seat as well.

while ranking a distant second to comfort, I am probably the only one here who values the look of a seat

I haven't had a Dual Tour on a K11RS but I'd say the Dual Tour is more comfortable. I've had those on my K75RT - did a coast to coast 36 hour, 2450 mile on the Corbin Dual Tour - then got up at non the nest day and rode some more. I also did a 1200+ day on my LT with a Dual Tour.

The Dual Sport (which is what I now haveon my K11RS oe not seem as comfortable -but isn't too bad.

If you're going to be puttingi nlong days then I'd lean twoards the Dual Tour though. IT seems to cradle your butt better while the Dual Sport has you riding with more pressure on your butt bones - especially me as I've got a bony butt.

ANY seat(maybe not a RUssell tractor seat since they're pretty comfy in the first place) can be made noticably more comfortable by adding a sheepskin seat cover.

I had a DualTour custom made by going down to their shop. I can't do 175 mile days w/o extreme pain.

I bought a Canyon seat off eBay. It's much better, maybe as good as the stock seat was, perhaps a little better.

I'll be taking the DualTour back down for a rework whenever I get bored enough to burn half a day in Hollister. They gave me a very spartan seat, no plushness at all, the hardest foam they have, etc. It'll be changing quite a bit...

I have the Dual Sport on both bikes. The 93 came with one, and it fit my butt like a dream. I liked it so much, I rode to Hollister and had them put one on the 96. The new seat's not nearly as comfortable. I attribute some of that to the riding stance. The 93 has raised bars, so I'm more upright. Like mnb, my new saddle has the harder foam, and like mnb, I'll be riding back at some point to have them rework it.

Funny thing, tho...my bride-to-be prefers the newer saddle over the older one. Figures... Confused

I have a Dual Tour that came with the bike, but had not yet been installed. I've put about 6-7,000 miles on it, so it should be broken in by now.

It is still a very hard seat, but is strangley comfortable. But after about two hours, my cheeks are ready for a rest though (and my legs to stretch out). The longest day I had in it was about 500 miles and about 8 hours of riding, and at the end of the day I have to say I was a bit sore in the rear, but not hurting. As much of that could be from the lack of long rides that I do and my butt not being as used to it as more regular long distance riders.

The pressure points still ends up being the butt bones (at least on my skinny rear), even with the saddle shape.

I haven't sat on a sport model, but it does appear to be closer to the stock profile.

Another data point:

On Janusry 2, I put in an 862 mile day over 16 hours on a Dual Sport on my K11RS. I was wearing Draggin Jeans with a light base layer underneath that day. After about two or three hours, the seat did start to bug me but only for about 20 minutes then it seemed fine for the rest of the day - as in I didn't notice any butt anguish.

On Janury 3, I rode 618 miles over 12 hours. On that cold rainy ride I had quite a few layers on (heavy riding pants with with liner, jeans and a North Face base layeror tow.) No problems at all that day but with the layers I was wearing I could sit on a concrete bench all day and be comfortable. Rolling Eyes
