i pulled the tiny little wires out of the heating pad on the throttle side so im gonna score those symtec heaters that are under grip heaters like the oem...

i got the oem grips and grip puppies on my heap... should i just cut them off and score some new oem grips and grip puppies and start all over instead of trying to save the existing grips...

the reason i ask i i hear its a lot easier to cut them off and start with new...

opinions please...

Yeah, do that...and grips are like 10$.

I went with Drakes suggestion of Progrip 699, and as advertised they are not to slim, not too thick and have a great feel.

Not sure, but you might need another throttle tube as the OEM heating elements are wrapped around the tube.

1) The Symtecs have different heating elements for the left and right. They assume that you have a plastic throttle on one side and a metal handlebar on the other. So you'll want to remove the clutch side heated grip - two little Philips screws.

2) Here's how to wire them:

(You really only need a 10A fuse.)

Also, the Symtecs use separate elements for high and low while the BMW HGs use resistive wire. Therefore, you want to remove the orange wire from the OEM switch and replace it with some normal wire. (Wouldn't hurt to resolder the other wires two - the factory connections can fall apart over time.)

3) It helps to put a layer or two of electrical tape over the metal on the left side. Reduces the heat sink of the bars and makes it heat a little better.

4) Get some ProGrip Model 699 gel grips. One is thicher than the other so they will look the same when you have one on the thicker throttle side and the other on the thinner clutch side. Make sure you get the open ended version.

5) It's been rumored (though I"m not 100% sure on K11s) that the heated grip wiring is not fused and has burned up a few K bikes. I always add my own fuse and relay so that I"m sure it's fused and by poweinrg with a relay, you can make sure they go off when you turn the bike off.

6) Aerosol Hairspray makes ideal grip glue. Spray it down the inside of the grips before you put them on. Acts as a lubricaqnt to slide them on and then sets to hold them in place.

As notedi n the Symtec instructions, DO NOT "test" the grip heating elements until you have them mounted - or they will burn up.

im in bakersfield this week... gonna try to fetch the goods up here... hope to have them on by the weekend... if not... it will be january... cause we be back to iowa 12-21 to 01-01...

Be ready for Ice and snow when you get back here to Iowa.

We just got another .5" ice and 2" snow on top of 2" of ice from the week before.

I don't think I'll have my K out anytime soon, I think it's time for service.

gonna drive from mps to waverly in a hyndi micro rental in the middle of the night...

i better take my jon-e hand warmer just in case...

i scored the goods from casporttouring...

$46 for progrips 699 black open and syntec grip wramers and small grip puppies delivered...

so... a $46 dollar education in not pulling on the oem grip wires... i know i know i know... i was warned...
