I need a new seat and I've decided on the Corbin Gunfighter.
Do you folks have any suggestions for materials? I've never had any complaints about the material on the stock K1100 seat. Unfortunately I laid the bike down late last summer, so now it's torn and getting progressively worse.
I'd like to go with leather but I put on a lot of miles (for a short New England season) and I inevitably get rained on. I will be the first to admit that I spend a lot more time riding than I do maintaining.
Corbin does have a material they call Husky Black which is described as "similar to neoprene". That would be an option on the tail-section with a basketweave vinyl - what they call Carbonium - on the seat section.
Any and all suggestions/advice greatly appreciated.
Thx - J.

Jay,

Where are you in N.E.?

I have a Corbin on my '92 RS with the basketweave on the seat, but it is the Canyon Dual Sport.

If you want to see and sit on it, you are welcome to stop by. Northern N.H.

John

Thanks for the feedback.
Based on that customer service nightmare I bought a used seat from the Beemer Boneyard. Saved $200+ (plus a headache I guess).
Once again K11OG proves to be worth it's bandwidth in gold.

FYI: I've had several Gunfighters. Yes, they look nice with the tail cowl. However, they tend to be a pretty hard seat and wouldn't be good for touring IMO.

i got a gunfighter from jim and i really like it. it treated me alright on the ride to and from hm last year. only very near the end of the ride was it uncomfortable, but even then it wasn't a deal breaker. i like the looks of the seat. unfortunately i don't know exactly what the "make" is or "options" are because i got it second hand.

different strokes for different folks. my little brother who is taller than me had a recovered dual canyon with more padding and he hated it. both of us rode 93 rs' the same distance.

Actually, supercat, I think you have a solo seat. The gunfighter has a flip up that allows for a pillion.

while that may have been what it was called in the past, it is definitely the "gunfighter" on the corbin site: http://corbin.com/bmw/8696gun.shtml

and this is the one my brother had (though his was recovered to match the color of the bike ... purple): http://corbin.com/bmw/8696dual.shtml

whatever it's name, i really like mine. Smile

and i do have a dual canyon corbin also, it just is torn up which is why i got the single seater from jim.

The one with the flip up seat in the back is a "Rumble Seat." No longer in production for Ks but I think they still make them for some other bikes.

Thank you both for the clarification - it's a strain to keep up with all the different Corbin seats...

Nice looking seat, supercat.

not gonna lie, i really do like the seat. my bony ass seems to do pretty well with the hard construction. and it took about 10 years off the look of the bike. the dual canyon literally had black duct tape on almost all the seams. the PO didn't care enough to replace or repair it. so that was the first thing i did, and man does it make a world of difference!

I have a gunfighter on mine and I love it.

It is leather, and it has been rained on plenty. But I give it a good rub down with saddle treatment and it says supple and good as new. It is almost as old as the bike, but it only has a little tiny patch of wear right towards the front.

I'm getting a nice custom seat made right now. Rick Mayer had a special in April so it was only $274 for a custom fit seat or $374 in leather. Including shipping. I went for basket weave vinyl since it'll see a fair amount of rain.

He recently lowered his prices by $100 so even his non-sale prices are an excellent value IMO.

http://www.rickmayercycle.com/

I shipped an old K1100 seat (crappy seat cover but like new pan and rubber bumpers) to him the other day and should have my new seat in the second week of June when I'll kiss the Russell goodbye. I can't wait....
