Every notce a colored dot on the side of your tire? (Metzler uses red, Briddgestone yellow) Wonder what it's there for? Some manufacturers put it on the tire to mark the lightest part of the tire. It should be mounted near the valve stem. This balances your tires/wheels better. It's not hte end of the world if it isn't done but it certainly doesn't hurt.

Many shops and techs don't know this so when you have tires mounted it's a good idea to request ahead of time that they do this when mounting your tires.

If you're female, just tell them that you think it looks prettier that way. Twisted Evil

Well, I'd heard that that was the recommended location for the valve stem, but I didn't realize that it was due to the weight of that area.

So no beer, but I'd buy ya' a coke...next time you're in the midwest.

It's too bad it only took Heineken about 4 or 5 years to figure out that the beer might not taste like aluminum if they just lined the cans. Me, I carry bottles when I ride - 'cause my turns are just so damned smooth..... Very Happy Ask Johnny - he'll tell ya....

I use to place the dot at the valve stem but I now check the wheel balance prior to mounting the tire in order to locate the heavy side because in my case the valve stem is not the heaviest part of the wheel. I then locate the dot on that spot. Muchado about nothing? Perhaps, but it further justifies my expenditure in the wheel balancer. Very Happy

Hi, All,
I like the Michelin Macadam 50/50E combination on the K75 and also used the same combination for years on my K1100LT's, in the appropriate sizes. Michelin uses no dots. All you can do is mount the tire, balance it and add weights until it's correctly balanced. I've never had to use a lot of weight.
Ride Safe,

Thats not always the best place for the spot to go. Best practice is to balance the wheel by itself and find the Heavy spot. Then line up the dot with that. The heavy spot on the wheel is not always the location of the valve stem, most times it is but not always.
