Back in 2002, I bought a 1995 K1100RS with 9000km, and rode with she for 2 years. In the end I must sell it.
Here are some pictures of that bike.
But now, comparing it with my KLT, the weight pends toward the LT.
In the shop of a friend.
The dash with 15000km, after some months of riding.
On a trip to Campos do Jordão, with some friends. See more about Campos do Jordão, a city in the Mantiqueira mountain ridge in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Campos_do_Jord%C3%A3o

Anothe shot of my K11RS.

Nice....I actually like the aesthetic lines of the RS better, but the heat and lack of a radio and windshield would kill me.
Nice thing about this site is there is no partisanship about which K is better, hell a few posters have one of each! _________________ Bane of your existence since July 2006

I holehartedly agree with OTG. I also joined the K series owners club which is powered by Bikersoracle based in the UK [i think] but that seems to have gone all K1200RS orientated and you have to have the latest bike to be able to participate.
No such discrimination here though. _________________ Fat Ba***d with a K1100LTse

You just have to have an old bike here.
Even though the newer bikes are "better" in many respects, I like the K1100s because they actually have a gas tank and look like a motorcycle. The headlights and fairings on the newer bikes also look too Japanese for my tastes. Not only that but there's no can'-bus electrical system to work around and, if motivated, you can do virtually all of the maintenance at home.
(And they're cheaper too. ) _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Having been thinking about what I would buy now I keep coming back to the K11 since it does everything I want of a bike even though it's 14 years old. And I agree with FD - I enjoy working on the bike (the stuff I can do) and get a lot of satisfaction from that. Buying a new bike would mean dealer servicing for many things and I just don't trust anyone to take the same care of my bike as I do. _________________ 1980 CB900FA

I must admit, the working on it myself is the big thing - the dealer often comes across as totally indifferent, and if they're like this now, what's going to be "too hard" (for them to bother with) when the plastics in the new bikes start failing with age (and the heat) - eg coil-over-plug ignition coils in the heads, plastic oil tanks etc on the newer 1200Rs?
Still got in the back of my head that BMW are now signatories to the EU directive to have vehicles recyclable after 10 years...
I'm getting to be an old fart.

I agree.
No way in comparing the simplicity and reliability of the K11 with the new BMW!
And the R models, 96-up... If you rides in a heacy rain, I saw some friends with the voltage regulator (the spark counter), burned because water enters into the front cover of the engine...

Love my RS. Have a done deal for a R1150RT, but everyone says I should sell the RS, 'what are you going to do with 2 bikes' .The one thing I want to do is slow down the mileage I'm putting on the RS, want it to be around a long time. May sound stupid. But bikers think at a different level. _________________ 1995 K1100RS

I say: keep the RS.
And don't mind in turn up the mileage counter! She will stand up in perfect way, much better than the RT, you sould only make the maintenance required!
