When I got my parts K11RS last summer, one of the things I did was replace the busted radiator and get the bike so it would at least move because I wanted to make sure the ABS brain was good. I was able to reset the ABSII and then go for a few short rides down the alley to make sure the brain was good before selling it.
In the ETK, it shows that the parts number is the same for K11s and some of the R models.
Based on what I'd seen in the ETK, I recently I sold the ABS II brain from that bike to an R1100RT owner. Upon installing it, he could not get it to initialize. We then went through several rounds of emails trying to get it going and reading fault codes etc.....
Anyhow, it seems as though even though the part number for the brain is the same, they need to be programmed differently for Rs and Ks. He was able to take it to Blue Moon Cycle and they reprogrammed and it's now working. They did this using the BMW diagnostic computer.
So, if your ABS II brain dies, this tidbit of info might help you find a replacement from an R and get it working in your bike.
(I'll bet bmwmick already knew this though. ) _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Drake,
Yes, There is coding in the Hydro Unit control card AND the ABS connector. I put a link to it in that 'ABS and Motronic' sticky.
http://www.largiader.com/abs/absfault.html#light has some more info under
"ABS2 differences between models" That is why I included that link.
Not all BMW technicians are capable of re-coding the ABS-II units.
