so my wenches symax broke where the chin bar pivots on the main helmet.... the folks at www.helmetoutletusa.com in dalton gardens idaho gave her a new helmet when i inquired about the part to make the fix...
so my symax broke where the visor pivots on the main helmet... then the visor pivot itself broke... the again the visor pivots on the main helmet broke...
this is all on 6 month old never dropped and well taken care of helmets...
so i have been considering the kbc modular... they fit me perfectly... or a scorpion exo 1000 full face with the drop down sun visor and cheek pump... the exo 700 fits me perfectly too...
so i call www.motorhelmets.com in santa fe springs california checking stock on the pivot plate and they tell me that they just got one of each size scorpion exo 1000 in today... they have lots o stuff in stock... especially helmets and helmet parts...
i go to fetch the hjc pivot plate and try on the scorpion exo 1000... man o man is it lite... i wore it around for about 15 minutes... it is a very nice unit... looks to have lots o ventilation... the sun shield works perfectly and the cheek pump works perfectly... the exterior is nicely finished and the interior is so pro it makes the symax look amateurish...
our symax helmets are all fixed up with new parts and shields so we are gonna use them for awhile and then switch over at the next failure... i think she is going to go with the scorpion and im going to go with the kbc... i would go with the scorpion if it were modular... still may...
fyi...
you gotta eat...

The Nolans seem to have some pretty positive reviews..... _________________ 93 LT (x2)

i tried the nolan... i like the nolan... but i had a massive pressure point across my forehead...
i was blessed with a giant snood and a big giant head... i scored the symax because it was the best fitting xxl modular i had tried to date at the time...
the quality just isnt there on the symax... im sure it would protect the melon as well as other modulars if we were to commence to wrecking... but im thinking the innerds and the mechanisms are junk... which has been a hassle recently...

I have also been less than happy with my Symax. For whatever reason the chin bar will not latch with the shield down. It seems like the shield is putting a small amount of pressure on the chin bar and not allowing it to latch. Makes me wonder how secure it would be in an accident.
Another issue was the black plastic trim pieces around the bottom of the helmet had really sharp edges from being molded. When I pulled the helmet on I would pull out on the straps to allow the helmet to go on easier. You guessed it, the flash on the plastic pieces actually cut into the straps. Customer service at HJC was less than worthless when I contacted them about it.
Another problem that I have is that the paint is so delicate that you can literally take it off with your fingernail.
Bottom line. Shame on me for buying a helmet over the internet. Shame on HJC for selling such a pooper and not standing behind it.

well...actually my wenches first symax was doa... the chin bar would not open... had to send it back... they told me it uses a nylon cable to activate the mechanism and it must have had stretched... so her issues with the hinge was actually on her second unit...
so today... this evening its getting dark and im getting the starburst from the headlights... so i pull off to plexus my symax shield for the last 20 miles of our ride...
this is the same symax that got new visor pivot plates just prior to todays ride... well now... the right pivot plate broke in the exact same place as the two before it... the plastic piece with the screw at the pivot broke completely off... leaving the plastic piece attached to the helmet with the screw and the pivot mechanisim dangling from the shield...
i ripped the shield completely off in a display of rage... gotta do that sometimes... glad i had my night riding glasses with me...
i have had it... im gonna put a new pivot plate on it for now... then im gonna score a new helmet at the long beach cycle world show in december...
you gotta eat...

| If you opt for a full face, do yourself a favor and get a Shoei RF 1000, not some Chinese/Korean junk. My .02. |

I have three Arai Quantums. Supposedly one of the safest helmets out there, weigh very little and are darned comfortable. I don't wear them on the LT late at night because they are so comfortable they actually make me sleepy. It's like wearing a pillow on your head. The only issue I have with them is that they whistle a little when the shield is up. _________________ 93 LT (x2)
